THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
E. D. Irvine, who has been in the pianol
business in Macon, Ga., for the past twenty-!
two years, is closing out his present stock of
pianos and organs with the object of making
a change in his methods and line of goods.
This means the dumping of a lot of well-
known instruments on the market at cut-
throat prices much to the dissatisfaction of
dealers in that and surrounding cities.
John Evans, of Newby & Evans, started on
Friday, the 18th, for a brief business tour and
returned on Wednesday last. He starts again
this week on a four-weeks trip.

Against Trading Stamps.
Assemblyman Holbert has introduced a
bill into the Assembly (N. Y.), making it a
misdemeanor to issue trading stamps and
similar devices. It is in the form of an
amendment to the Penal Code, and adds a
new section to take effect on September next.
It reads as follows:
" A person who shall issue trading stamps
or other devices to any person engaged in
any trade, business, or profession, with the
promise, express or implied, that he will give
to the person presenting to him such stamps
or other devices, money or anything of value,
without receiving from such person the value
thereof, or make to any such person any con-
cession or preference in any way, on account
of the presentation of such trading stamps or
other, devices; or being engaged in any
trade, business or profession, shall distribute
or present to any person dealing with him
any such trading stamps or other device in
consideration of any article or thing pur-
chased of or any services performed by him,
shall be guilty of misdemeanor."

Foster & Waldo's Enterprise.
Minneapolis points with pride to a great
many solid business houses, those which have
grown up with her and those which her many
advantages have induced to locate here. Of
course, a special pride and interest is mani-
fested in those houses which have really
been started and developed in her midst.
They are really her own children. 'Tis said
of a man you can judge him by the company
he keeps. It is equally true of a city, the
character and standing of her business
houses, gives some idea of her genuine worth
and solidity. Minneapolis can well afford to
rest her case on this very point. She espe-
cially points with pride to a large number of
genuine, through and through Minneapolis
concerns, whose very beginning was right
here. Her splendid growth and development
is reflected in these many successful business
houses and enterprises. A genuine through
and through Minneapolis business house,
started and built up right here, is that of Fos-
ter & Waldo, the piano dealers. It is doubt-
ful if there is another instance in the whole
piano history of America where so large and
successful a business has been built up during
the same length of time. It speaks volumes
for the many commercial advantages of Min-
neapolis. About ten years ago this house
was started by real Minneapolis people in a
very modest way and has continued to pros-
per and grow each year, until now, go where
you may, in any part of America, it is known
and recognized as the most solid, substantial
piano house in the Northwest. The past two
years have been the most prosperous in the
career of this successful firm.—Minneapolis,
