Julius Breckwoldt.
The enterprise of Julius Breckwoldt, the
well-known manufacturer of sounding boards
and bass, guitar and mandolin tops, Dolge-
ville, N. Y., has recently been commented on,
in a most complimentary way, by the Herald
of that town. After referring to Mr. Breck-
woldt's being born in Blankenese near Ham-
burg, Ger., in '56 and his arrival in New York
in '72, the article proceeds to say:
" In 1896 Mr. Dolge made him an offer to
sell the sounding board business, which he
accepted, and at once made arrangements to
increase the plant so as to be able to meet
any demand of the trade. He removed the
factory nearer to the railroad so as to facili-
tate the shipping of his goods; also to have
the lumber nearer to his works. He also
added new machinery, which makes it to-day
one of the most complete and modern plants
in its line of manufacture.
"Everything moves systematically. Getting
the lumber from the yard, planing, drying
and laying out, as well as the finishing, are
done with such regularity that there is no
hindrance in the work from the time the
board is started until it is completed.
"The capacity of the factory is 125 boards
per day. The factory has been running full
time for over a year, which shows the grow-
ing demand for the Breckwoldt sounding
boards, and this is principally due to the fact
that the work is done in the most approved
and workmanlike manner. Therefore it is not
astonishing that his boards have achieved a
world-wide reputation."
