This invention relates to certain improve-
ments in organs of the reed type, and has for
its object the provision of means whereby the
tone-producing parts or members are ren-
dered capable of convenient removal from
the main structure of the organ in order to
effect repair of any one section or to tune the
same, or for any other purpose.
As is well known, reed-organs are con-
structed of horizontal sets of reeds arranged
in tiers one above the other and operated by
pallets in vertical rows, each vertical row of
pallets being lifted simultaneously by the key
and its connections. Heretofore the wind-
chest, resonator, and set of reeds have been
permanently secured to the main structure of
the organ, thereby necessitating the return of
the entire instrument to the factory in order
to effect repairs of any one given section or
to tune the reeds of any section.

The object of this invention is to provide a
new and improved musical instrument ar-
ranged to allow a player to execute any de-
sired music, the instrument being more es-
pecially designed as a substitute for a pipe or
piccolo, and permits the performer to readily
imitate the whistle of birds.

many branch stores which they will conduct

Duncan Clark was held for the grand jury
by Judge Sabath in a Chicago court on Sat-
urday last for breaking into the music store
of R. J. Powell, 58 South Elizabeth street,
and carrying away a number of violins, cor-
nets and other musical instruments. Clark
was apprehended in a peculiar way. When
he entered the music store, his musical in-
stincts got the best of his thieving instincts,
and he could not resist the temptation to try
a few notes on the cornet he had captured.
The tune was rendered as low as possible, but
just at that moment a sergeant and two de-
tectives passed the store, and entering found
Clark ready to depart with a full line of in-
struments. His arrest followed.
