THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Reviewlets.
John A. Northiop, treasurer of Comstock,
Cheney & Co., who had been ill with a
complication of diseases for the past three
years, died at his home in Ivory ton, Conn.,
Wednesday of last week. Mr. Northrop
was born in Sherman, Conn., some sixty
years ago, and for twenty years had been
connected with Comstock, Cheney & Co.
•He leaves a widow and two children.
Chief Commissioner Obadiah"»E.' Davis,
of Red Bank, N. J., has purchased of Emile
French, his interest in the firm of Curtis &
French, piano dealers of same place, and
the new firm will consist of Messrs. Curtis
& Davis.
V. T. Barnwell's music store, 118 Peach-
tree street, Atlanta, Ga., was entered by
burglars last week and some expensive in-
struments and strings were stolen,"
J. T. Wamelink's piano store, Cleveland,
O., and the entire stock of instruments,
was destroyed by fire last week. An in-
surance of $30,000 was carried, which, it
is estimated, will cover the loss. Tempor-
ary quarters have been secured and busi-
ness will be carried on as usual. A new
stock of Henry F. Miller pianos, Hardman,
Vose, Emerson and other lines which he
carried have been ordered.
Affiech & Ellis have opened a music store
in Marianna, Fla.
The Golden Rod Piano Co. of Ports-
mouth, O., have placed all their machinery
in position, and are now manufacturing.
C. P. Bowlby, the Washington, N. J.,
organ manufacturer, has made an offer to
his creditors of thirty cents on the dollar
payable in 12, 15 and 18 months. The
proposition has not been entertained fav-
orably.
Alfred Dolge will deliver a lecture before
the University Club at Little Falls, N. Y.,
on the evening of April 1st. His subject
will be " How to Adjust a Conflict Between
Capital and Labor."
Hugh Sterling contemplates opening a
piano store in Camden, N. J.
The Phelps & Lyddon Co., Rochester,
N. Y., report an excellent demand for
their piano cases. The oiders on hand
insure a busy factory late into the spring.
Miss Zella Cole, a young pianist who is
destined to make her mark in the musical
world, played an ambitious program on
the Mason & Hamlin grand piano at
Steinert Hall, Boston, last week. Miss
Cole pleased her audience by her splendid
interpretation, and the piano, a magnificent
instrument truly, delighted everyone. The
Mason & Hamlin grand is steadily grow-
ing in popularity; its superior qualities
are fast being recognized.
E. P. Murphy, piano dealer, McKees-
port, Pa., is enlarging his store. When
alterations are completed it will be one of
the finest warerooms in that city.
A. L. Rawlings, who has just moved into
the warerooms formerly occupied by H. D.
Munson & Sons, is one of the energetic
music trade men of Newark, O. His new
quarters have been entirely remodeled,
and he is carrying a fine stock of instru-
ments with the celebrated " Baldwin " as a
leader. He is also handling a choice line
of organs and small goods.
Last week Estey & Camp, of St. Louis,
recovered a $200 piano which they had
loaned to the Oriental Theatre of that city
a long time ago, and which they had for a
time despaired of recovering. A few days
before recovery they heard that one of their
pianos had been offered for sale at a private
house, and when Mr. Hepburn, the sales-
man, was sent out he recognized the long
lost piano. A blank writ of replevin
was secured in Justice Clements' Court,
but it was not necessary. The piano was
peaceably secured and is again back in its
oJd home after a series of interesting
^escapades.

ASK QUESTIONS;
When a piano manufacturer tells you
his pianos are the best, and that no others
are worth considering, ask questions.
Ask him "Why?"
As a matter of fact most pianos are
good; the makers would be fcclizh t* d"
other than their best.
The differences between them are
small, but small things arc very im-
portant.
It is by excelling en many little things
that the WESER PIANO is lifted above
the common mediocrity of pianodom.
Maybe it's the greater elasticity of the
hammers, our new duett uesk or our
practice pedal—both patented—which
altogether make so many dealers persist
in having the Weser Piano.
Talk to us about it.
