THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW.
XICTE respectfully call the attention of our agents
and the music-loving public in general to
the fact that certain parties are manufacturing,
and have placed upon the market, a cheap piano,
bearing a name so similar to our own (with a slight
difference in spelling) that the purchaser may be led
to believe that he is purchasing a genuine "SOHMER
PIANO."

We deem it our duty to those who have been
favorably impressed with the fine quality and high
reputation of the "SOHMER PIANO," to warn them
against the possibility of an imposition by unscru-
pulous dealers or agents.
Every genuine " SOHMER PIANO " has the follow-
ing trade mark stamped upon the sounding-board : j

expect a boom in this special line during
the coming campaign, and are making pre-
parations accordingly. An elaborate cata-
logue of forty-eight pages, containing il-
lustrations and particulars of our brass
band instruments, is now in press, and will
be ready for the trade within the next week
or so.
"We are handling two grades of band in-
struments, which are termed the 'Gordon
High Grade' and the 'Gordon Unexcelled. 1
These instruments are made specially for us
in Germany, by one of the most experi-
enced makers, and are warranted to be
perfect in tone and finish, and equal, if not
superior, to any on the market.
"The 'Gordon High Grade' instruments
are sold at a popular price, while the 'Gor-
don Unexcelled' are of a higher grade, and
are fully guaranteed to be unexcelled in
workmanship as well as in quality of tone.
"We are making a special feature in con-
nection with our brass band trade of the
'Kaiser' cornet, which is quite a novelty,
being the only short-action piston-valve
cornet manufactured. It is a Distin model

THE
Kranich & Bach Catalogue.
A PUBLICATION
THAT WILL
HE READ WITH
CONSIDERABLE INTEREST.
T
HERE is much to commend in the
handsomely printed and attractively
gotten up catalogue which has just reached
us from Kranich & Bach, of this city.
First and foremost its brevity and lucidity
in statement of facts; its typographical ar-
rangement, particularly in bringing out the
important points in side captions, legal
style; its convenience in size, not occupy-
ing more than twelve pages of type, and
the innovation in placing illustrations of
the different pianos on one sheet in supple-
ment form.
Although limited in size, this catalogue
covers the ground very thoroughly, and
contains much that the trade will read with
considerable interest.
From a literary
standpoint it is forcibly and cleverly writ-
ten. It possesses many admirable points
in this respect which place it in advance of
any catalogue which has come under our
notice for some time.
Following the introduction, the main
points treated of are, "A Few Thoughts
and Facts," treating comprehensively of
the past, present and future of the Kranich
& Bach business, which is followed by a
definite statement on the next page that
"we make only one grade of piano—the very
highest—and none of the members of our
company are either directly or indirectly
interested in any other establishment or
make of piano, nor do we offer for sale any
other than the Kranich & Bach pianos."
The distinctive features of the pianos are
then fully described, and their special
points of superiority set forth. Among
these striking and novel improvements are
the metallic action rack, patent damper
head, brass sticker socket, patent music
desk or note rest in upright pianos, newly
designed open backs, patent fall-board, the
improved metal frame, patent double re-
peating action, spiral spring washer.
Then follows a brief description of their
spacious factory on Twenty-third street, an
illustration of which appears on the back
cover page, followed by reference to their
grand and upright pianos, prices, terms,
testimonials and awards, with a partial list
of prominent musicians and teachers who
use and recommend the Kranich & Bach
pianos.
The illustrations of pianos include style
A, parlor grand; style B, concert grand;
style C, boudoir upright; style CX, style
D and style F, cabinet grands. Archi-
tecturally these pianos arc most attractive.
The oval panel effects and the charming
variety of design in legs, pilasters and side
panels, which is different in each instru-
ment, lend a certain individuality and ad-
mirable effect which pleases.
In every respect this catalogue is a credit
to Kranich & Bach, and its publication can-
not fail to be of great benefit.
