The Favorite Behning.
T
HE good work that Henry and Gustave
Behning are doing for the instruments
which bear their name is finding much ap-
preciation among the dealers who have
shown their belief in the Behning pianos by
giving them special prominence. Joseph
Flanner, the well-known Milwaukee dealer,
has had great success with the Behning
piano. He was lately in receipt of the fol-
lowing from the School Commissioners of
that city:
"We, the Commissioners of the School
Board of the public schools of Milwaukee,
Wis., under date of Nov. 2d, 1894, desire
to state that we selected the Behning piano
for use in the public schools on account of
their fine tone, durable qualities and hand-
some appearance, and that furthermore,
the instruments purchased have given the
best of satisfaction." Signed, Henry J.
Killillea, C. H. Tart, Charles V. Schmidt,
Henry W. Sivyer.
Piano Tuning for Women.
IANO tuning for women is the subject
of an article in a recent issue of The
Delineator, from the pen of a teacher in the
New England Conservatory of Music. We
quote in part:
"To summarize the matter in a few-
words, then, T may say that pianoforte tun-
ing as an exclusive occupation has been
made a success by a good proportion of
those young women who have entered upon
it, and now that the ground is broken, it

will be easier every day for those who
follow. To a large number it has been the
means of obtaining a higher musical edu-
cation, and to practically all it has proved
a great help in connection with other mu-
sical work, and in itself a paying invest-
ment. It should be understood by all stu-
dents of the pianoforte, and though it may
at first retard their progress as pianists, it
will greatly enhance their value in the pro-
fession later on.
mon, and the Dowager Countess of Dudley
has a magnificent carved specimen. Pianos
of ivory are, I might say, made every year
in numbers, but chiefly for Indian princes
and rich Spanish-Americans. Many pianos
of solid silver have been made; indeed, one
was only recently completed by a London
firm for the Nizam of Hyderabad, and piano
cases have at various times been made of
bronze, a-species of aluminium, glass, porce-
lain, and, in combination, mother-of-pearl.'

respectfully call the attention of our agents
and the music-loving public in general to
the fact that certain parties are manufacturing,
and have placed upon the market, a cheap piano,
bearing a name so similar to our own (with a slight
difference in spelling) that the purchaser may be led
to believe that he is purchasing a genuine "SOHMER
PIANO."
We deem it our duty to those who have been
favorably impressed with the fine quality and high
reputation of the "SOHMER PIANO," to warn them
against the possibility of an imposition by unscru-
pulous dealers or agents.
Every genuine " SOHMER PIANO " has the follow-
ing trade mark stamped upon the sounding-board :
