THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW.
IO
E respectfully call the attention of our agents
and the music-loving public in general to
the fact that certain parties are manufacturing,
and have placed upon the market, a cheap piano,
bearing a name so similar to our own (with a slight
difference in spelling) that the purchaser may be led
to believe that he is purchasing a genuine "SOHMF.K
PIANO."
PIANOS
We deem it our duty to those who have been
favorably impressed with the fine quality and high
reputation of the "SOHMER PIANO," to warn them
against the possibility of an imposition by unscru-
pulous dealers or agents.
Every genuine " SOHMER PIANO " has the follow-
ing trade mark stamped upon the sounding-board :

ment," and is certainly a most ingenious
invention. It is designed for the purpose
of combining a reed instrument with any
upright pianoforte. Its simplicity strikes
one forcibly. Any person of average in-
telligence can connect it with an ordinary
upright piano without affecting the touch,
tone or action of the instrument to which it
is applied.
It has a compass of three
octaves of reeds with various effects, and is
placed inside the piano. When used in
conjunction with the pianoforte the effect is
indeed charming. This attachment is pat-
ented by Manns & Dawkins, and it strikes
me that it would become quite a thing in
the United vStates, where, we believe, the
people are so fond of novel effects in con-
junction with musical instruments.
liar quality of tone possessed by this
instrument. This is due to the " qualifying
tubes " exclusively used by the Clough &
Warren firm. Like the majority of houses
visited, they report an excellent business.
At the show rooms of the W. W. Kimball
Company, Wood street, I found Mr. Mar-
pies, who showed me various new styles of
Kimball organs which he had received re-
cently. They are very attractive in appear-
ance and the different stop effects are exceed-
ingly pleasing. Mr. Marples informed me
that these instruments were specially made
for the British market. He speaks very
highly of the Kimball goods, and says
dealers find them ready sellers.
*
The Peloubet church organs, manufac-
tured by Lyon & Hcaly, are sold in Lon-
don by J. G. Murdoch & Co. The con-
struction of these instruments is always a
source of interest to church organists, and
during my visit I was fortunate enough to
hear a well-known organist examine this
instrument critically, and his opinion, both
as to power of tone and tone-color possi-
bilities, was very nattering. Messrs. Mur-
doch & Co. are quite "enthusiastic about
these instruments, and are building up a
splendid trade with them.
