attending it. Not a trace of the missing
instrument was found. The aged professor
grew more and more despondent and mo-
rose, and finally, about two months ago, he
died literally of a broken heart.
The widow struggled along as best she
could, alone.
Recently she saw in the
papers that Mr. Flechter had a very valua-
ble violin in his store for sale, and went
there to look at it.
She identified it as her lost treasure, and
forthwith appealed to the police for help.
The arrest of Mr. Flechter followed.
The case came up for hearing at the
Jefferson Market Police Court last Satur-
day, and by agreement between counsel
was adjourned until July 5th. Quite a
number of distinguished musicians will
give evidence in this case. Among those
subpoenaed are Prof, hfenry Schradick, of
the Leipsic Conservatory of .Music; Edou-
ard Remenyi, the Hungarian violinist;
vSig. Diaz Albertini, Prof. Leopold Lichten-
berg, of the National Conservatory of
Music;
Carl Richter Nicalai, Naham
Franko, John Frederich, a well-known
maker; George and August Gem under, and
P. A. Josephs, rrskeis. Mrs. Eott teems
to have the sympathy and support of these
musicians.
Will Increase Capital Stock.
T
HE Ann Arbor Organ Co., have de-
cided to increase the capital stock to
$50,000. Four thousand dollars will be ex-
pended in the erection of a brick factory
addition, $1,000 will be used in building a
new modern dry kiln, and ^900 will be ex-
pended for a 7 5-horse-power engine, the
present 25-horse-power engine being too
small. This company was established in
1872, by D. F. Allmendinger, and was in-
corporated in April, 1888. The present
stockholders are, with four exceptions, the
same as those organizing the company.
The company in 1888 employed twelve
men; over forty are now employed. Each
year's business since the incorporation has
shown a good profit.
An Amendment to the Penal
Code.
A
N amendment to the penal code, sec-
tion 378, was passed at the last ses-
sion of the Legislature of this State.
It
goes into effect on September 1st, and its
main object is to prevent the exaction of
usury.
It reads as follows: " A person
who, directly or indirectly, receives any
interest, discount or consideration upon
the loan or forbearance of money, goods,
or things in action, or upon the loan, use
or sale of his personal credit in any wise,
where there is taken for such loan, use, cr
sale of personal credit, security upon any
household furniture,
sewing machines,
plate or silverware, in actual use, tools or
implements of trade, wearing apparel or
jewelry, or as security for the loan, use, or
sale of personal credit as aforesaid, makes
a pretended purchase of such property
from any person, and permits the pledger
to retain the possession thereof, greater
than six per centum per annum, is guilty
of a misdemeanor."

TRASCINO PIANO MANUFACTUR-
ING CO., Fond du Lac, Wis., an-
nounce that the first piano manufactured
by this company will be placed on the mar-
ket about the middle of August, or not
later than the first of September. At the
beginning the production of the factory
will be six pianos a week, while the ca-
pacity of the plant is to be twenty. The
company is now getting its factory building
into working order, and the plant will
shortly go into operation.
