We have also on our desk a number of '' Easy
Pieces" by celebrated composers, and some
pretty duets for young players, issued by this
enterprising house, which ought to find favor
with teachers.

i, 2, 3. Mr. Gilder has been increasing the
number of his many creditable compositions of
late. In Nos. 1 and 2 he has contributed two
well written and exceedingly pleasing pieces
which are within the range of the majority of
players. The second number especially is
quaint and charming. Mr. Gilder is in evidence
at the proper time with his musical Fosteriana,
No. 3.) It is a pleasing and musicianly treatment
of three favorites, '' Old Folks at Home,''
"Uncle Ned" and " Camptown Races." The
transcription cannot fail to become extremely
popular with teachers, or in the parlor.

4. This is a concert galop which can be highly
recommended. It is tuneful, brilliant and well
arranged. A capital study for ambitious pupils.
5. Mr. Herselberg has endeavored to express
his admiration for the splendid Knabe pianos in
this number. Anyone knowing their splendid
qualities will realize the difficult task he has
had on hand. However, he has given us a good,
vigorous march that is simply but effectively
arranged.
6. This is a very interesting addition to the
many transcriptions of this popular Irish song,
already extant. The treatment is in some re-
spects original and exceedingly effective. One
could hardly expect anything else from Mr.
Hoffman. It ought to prove a splendid '' show''
piece for advanced pupils in parlor or concert,
and cannot fail to win admirers.
7. A dainty and finished trifle. It is edited
by L. Kessler.
8. This is a sprightly and meritorious morceau
a la schottische which will undoubtedly become
very popular.
9. A lengthy introductory that is somewhat
original in its changes of key and tempo open
up pleasing waltzes which display good con-
structive taste in arrangement and melody.
10. A capital set of waltzes after the Wald-
teufel school that will find favor with pianists
or in the orchestra. They are effectively arrang-
ed and not over difficult.

As a matter of good form, the contributor to
the newspaper now accompanies his manuscript
with a note, assuring the editor that this sub-
mission of the poem to him does not necessarily
imply any lack of merit on his—the editor's—
part.—Boston Post.
No Chance.—Rural Editor : What sort of an
opening is there for a paper in this town ?
Native.—None at all, stranger. We've got a
grocery, two dressmakers and a tavern, and
what news they leave over ain 't worth mention-
ing.—N. Y. Truth.
One of the Hampton pupils, a young negro,
wrote to request the editor of a local paper to
publish an account of an address he had made,
and began his letter as follows: '' Knowing
your mediocrity to be of the most distinguished
calibre, I respectfully solicit,' • etc.—Harper's
Bazar.
The editor of the Republican at Burlington,
Kan., thus makes an important announcement:
'' The editor of this paper, Grover Cleveland
and Prince Henry of Battenberg, the husband
of Queen Victoria's youngest daughter, have
had additions to their families within the last
few weeks. It is a great year for the aris-
tocracy. "
Geo. P. Bent's Crown Pianos and
Organs.
When the god of the shepherds Reed Pipes did
invent,
He had not then heard of the Crown of P. Bent,
But Apollo, the god of ALL music, had heard
And he trilled in sweet tones that famed musical
word,
"Crown Piano."
Terpsichore then, on pleasure intent;
Tuned the '' light toe '' to the Crown of P. Bent,
And Flora, the goddess of flowers, came down
And wreathed with bright laurels this
Beautiful Crown.
The musicians of Earth a council then held,
And all there acknowledged their vanity quelled.
Each had thought his piano far famed with
renown ;
But now it was nowhere ; and Bent was
Their Crown.
Then their voices all chimed in a musical wail,
We'll give back ; yes, give back the pianos that
fail,
And to crown all our lives with joy and content,
We'll purchase pianos of Geo. P. Bent.
Then the organ's " L,ost Chord" gave a final
assent
And the council assembled on ecstasy Bent,
As a sunbeam gleamed brightly in sympathy
down,
With the tender refrain that pealed forth from
the Crown
