I was pleased to travel a part of the week in
the company of " Ormie " Houghton, of veneer
fame, who is now returning from a long Western
trip. '' Ormie '' has closed up a fine business
and is now skaking hands with the trade in
Canada. Speaking of meeting " Ormie, " what
a lot of travelers the music trade fraternity are.

A CLEVER swindler has been playing havoc
with the piano trade of St. Louis and locality
for some time. Under the nom-de-plume of James
L. Gordon, Oliver Adams, William Dale, W.
Baxter, etc., he has been renting pianos, paying
the rent and cartage in advance, having the
piano sent to his temporary boarding house, and
then telling the landlady that he was going to
live with friends and carting the piano along
with him. In his new quarters he advertised
the piano for sale, and in a great many cases
succeeded in selling it. Such firms as Bollman
Bros. Co., Jesse French Piano & Organ Co., W.
T. Bobbitt, J. A. Kieselhorst and others have
been sufferers. This scoundrel apparently suc-
ceeded by methods which, had the dealers exer-
cised more care in treating with absolute
strangers, might have been avoided. It is a
warning, but an expensive warning, and dealers
in the West must look out for this clever indi-
vidual with the numerous aliases.
THE music business of Brehmer Brothers, at
Rutland, Vt., is now located in Merchants Row,
that city.
IT is said that H. N. Starr, the assignee of the
Anderson Piano Company, will declare a divi-
dend of about 30 per cent, within a few days.
