THE Dickinson ivory works, near the depot,
Essex, Conn., removed their business to the old
brittania shop, at Meadow Woods, Tuesday, and

MARY NUGENT appeared before Justice Patter-
son Saturday, in answer to a suit brought against
her by Jacobs Brothers to replevin a $250 piano.
In spite of the fact that she wore a $400 sealskin
ulster, she said that she had starved herself to
meet the $7 a month instalments. She was or-
dered to return the piano.—N. Y. World, Nov.

THE great Columbian Exposition has closed
its gates forever, and the most wonderful
mechanical, artistic, inventive and educational
exhibition of the century has passed into
history.
American genius and inventive faculty have
won the most signal recognition in many depart-
ments, but in no department is it more marked
than in that devoted to musical instruments.
This was no surprise to those intimately con-
nected with the trade, but to the general public,
accustomed to look to the products of European
factories, as the ideals for all lands, the know-
ledge that a representative American house,
such as ours, has been awarded no less than
twelve diplomas and medals of the first-class for
the various styles of musical instruments ex-
hibited, comes in the nature of an agreeable The Company Scrupulously protect their

the nature of a National triumph.—Lyon &

What is good and what is evil ?

Where the wicked and the righteous
Journey onward side by side.

Music soothes the savage impulse,
And the fair white dove of peace
Soon shall cross the spirit's portals,
From thy sorrow bring surcease.
Here are tune, and tone and finish,
Something more, but nothing less ;
Try the offered panacea,
It will surely soothe and bless.
In Chicago, stately city,
Is this thing of beauty wrought;
And 'twill be a "joy forever,"
If perfection thou has sought.

THE A. B. CHASE CO.,
The house of Lyon & Healy secured honors at
the World's Fair that are entirely unprecedented,
no less than twelve Diplomas and Medals of the
highest class being awarded to the musical instru-
ments produced by their factories. This number
of awards has never been even approached by any
other music house, nor has any previous World's
Fair ever bestowed such recognition to the prod-
ucts of one firm,
