find its way into the parlors of the music loving
public.
3. A waltz song that possesses merit although
strangely reminiscent of several old favorites.
The words are by the composer.
4. An unusually pleasing song. The musical
setting displays originality of a high order. The
words, by Wm. H. Gardner, are in his most
charming vein.
5. 6, 7. Three high class songs for soprano or
tenor. The musical arrangement is effective
and not over difficult. The verse is excellent,
particularly the '' Serenade.''
8. A pleasing waltz song, simply arranged.
The words, by that noted song writer, Geo.
Cooper, are full of tender and refined sentiment.
9. A beautiful high-class ballad for tenor or
soprano, by that clever musician, Thos. O'Neill.
The words, by the composer, are graceful and
appropriate. It forms, altogether, a superior
vocal work.
10. A rather quaint musical setting is given
to words by Wm. Cullen Bryant.
11. This song is dedicated to Messrs.
Weatherly and Molloy, and is decidedly a
meritorious one. It is of the English school,
and compares favorably with any of them. The
words are by the composer.

CHICAGO.
1. A very pretty and expressive song. The
music is spontaneous and well written. Verse
is by Miss Raleigh.
2. A descriptive ballad with many musical
qualities to commend it. The words are by Wm.
H. Gardiner.
3. A ballad of the popular order with a pleas-
ing waltz refrain. The arrangement is simple
enough to please all performers.
1. Rialto, March.
C. Simpson.
2. Picaninny's Frolic.
C. Simpson.
3. In Forest Green, Schottische. T. S. Hansen.
1. A tuneful and vigorous march. It has
sufficiently good musical qualities to commend
itself to the frequenters of the Rialto.
2. An Ethiopian '' Wing Dance,'' by the same
composer. It is of the '' catchy '' order, and
will undoubtedly be around town in due time.
3. An excellent military schottische. It is
arranged with skill, and will prove a popular
dance number.
We have also on our desk a large number of
zither arrangements, recently issued by the Gor-
don house, entitled " Wreath of Gems for the
Zither," arranged by Keller, which will be wel-
comed by lovers of that instrument.
Enterprising dealers all over the Country are
fast securing the agency for the wonderful

decorative. The Detroit Free Press reports
that a colored man went into a grocery in that
city not long ago, and asked the proprietor if
he had any burlap lying about the shop.
"Yes," said the grocer, " I ' v e got a few
coffee-sacks, but they are old and in pretty bad
shape."
"Dat's all de better, sah. I want 'bout four
of 'em."
The grocer brought them out, and the negro
looked round the shop.
'' Has you any pieces of rope to spare ? " he
asked. " I want about fifty feet."
A tangled lot of old cord and rope was handed
to him.
"Going to pack something for moving? "
asked the grocer.
" No, sah. My wife was workin' fer a lady
on High street de odder day, an' she cotched on
to a new idea. She's gwine to use dis stuff,
'long wid a few suspender buckles an' shoe-
strings, to make a pianer-kiver."
" Land ! but what a cover that will make ! "
"Dat's what I done tole her, but she brung
home all de perticklers in her mind, an' she's
boun' to turn one out. If you h'ar of anybody
as wants a twenty-five dollar pianer-kiver, home-
made and chuck full of art, jes' le' me know."
Mrs. Hicks.—" I wish you would go out with
baby for a little while." Hicks.—" Well, well;
the neighbors have got a notion now that I 'm a
sandwich man for a baby carriage factory."

CHASE
PIANOS.
"CROWN" PIANOS,
All nature hath her songs of praise,
'Tis said the stars together sing ;
Angelic hosts their voices raise,
While harps make heaven's arches ring.
There seems within our souls to be
An instrument of wondrous kind,
Whose strings vibrate in sympathy
With tones musicians love to find.
No instrument can stir and thrill
This inner harp, this gift divine,
Like Bent's pianos : it can fill
The souls that worship at its shrine.
Used Exclusively in Seidl,
Thomas and Gilmore Concerts

THE A. B. CHASE CO.,

The house of Lyon & Healy secured honors at
the World's Fair that are entirely unprecedented,
no less than twelve Diplomas and Medals of the
highest class being awarded to the musical instru-
ments produced by their factories. This number
of awards has never been even approached by any
other music house, nor has any previous World'e
Pair ever bestowed such recognition to the prod-
ucts 130 Fifth Avenue, otraer xStlt Street, New York.
