The Board of Managers of the Young Women's
Christian Association of Harlem, will give two
subscription concerts December 12 and January
19. The concerts were arranged by Mr. Carl
V. Lachmund, and will bring to Harlem for the

Orchestra. The following artists will also ap-

Miss Etta Roehl, soprano ; Miss Jean Tamezen
Slee, contralto, and Carl V. Lachmund, pianist.
Mrs. Belle Cole made her last appearance in
this country, November 20th, at the Damrosch
concert at Music Hall, and sang Ruth's song,
by Gounod, " Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee,"
and two English ballads—"Douglas Gordon,"

Cecilia Choral Society of Boston proposes to
offer as its most important contribution to the
coming season, Dvorak's requiem mass. Dvorak
will conduct the performance in person.
The Imperial Banjo and Guitar Club has been
organized at Auburn, N. Y., under the leadership
of J. G. Hickey. Geo. Adams, C. Gardner, F.
Brnsberger, and others are members.
A brass band has been organized at Claysville,

by Kellie, and •• The Flight of Ages," by Beran.
William Ludwig sang several Irish songs,
besides Gounod's "There is a Green Hill Far
Away." Besides these soloists Mr. William H.
Sherwood, the pianist, played Weber's polacca
in E, with orchestra, and two solos—Chopin's
F sharp impromptu and a march from suite, op.
91. The Symphony Orchestra played Berlioz's
overture, "The Corsair," Saint-Saens* "The
Dance of Death," Massenet's "Neapolitan
Scenes," and the "Fire Charm" from "Die
"Walkure."
Paderewski practices on the piano more assidu-
ously since fame has come to him than ever be-
fore. He begins to practice as soon as he gets
out of bed in the morning, and has been known
to pass twenty-seven hours out of forty-eight
at the piano.
Mr. Bruno Oscar Klein has composed the
music for a motet, " Tu esPetrus " (soli, chorus
and orchestra), which will be performed at
Carnegie Music Hall February 20, on the occa-
sion of the golden jubilee of Pope Leo. XIII.
The anniversary proper falls on February 19,
but this date being Sunday the Pope decreed
the celebration to be held on the following day.
The proceeds of the concert will be devoted to
the foundation of a college for Catholic church
music.

report which has been circulated to the
effect that Gilmore's Band would disperse
after its performance in Cincinnati, November
20, seems to be without foundation. Mr. C. A.
Barcher, a wealthy Chicago man, who took
charge of the band and assumed its contracts
after Mr. P. S. Gilmore's death, denies the re-
port of the disbandment, and states that the
band is prospering and success is crowning
every effort.
A new band will soon be organized at Digh-
ton, Kans., by W. H. Harvey.
Herr Paderewski will sail for this country
December 14, by the Havel. He will begin his
tour in San Francisco under the management of
