Sullivan, an actor of undoubted merit. Dora is
acted by Miss Sadie Martinot, and it is hardly
necessary to say that the presentation given by
the popular actress is an uncommonly good one.
Charles Coghlan re-appears as Henri Beauclerc,
the part to which the late Lester Wallack gave
such attractive vitality. Mr. Coghlan is an emi-
nent actor, and his rendition in the present in-
stance is well worthy of his established reputa-
tion. The remaining parts are all well per-
formed, the drama is given an exquisite stage
setting and there is no doubt that the play will
be exceedingly popular.

Professor Herrmann's wonderful sleight-of-
hand performances, experiments and illusions
continue to crowd his beautiful theatre on
Broadway near 29th street, and convince the
public that Herrmann is the greatest magician
of the day. He accomplishes his feats in a
very graceful, dexterous, but at the same time
wonderful manner. His latest original illusion
is a Chinese mystery called '' Ya-Ko-Ko or
Chinese Imigration Made Easy.'' In this feat
a live Chinaman is mysteriously transported
from a box on one side of the stage, which is set
to represent a street in a Chinese city and one in
San Francisco, to a box on the other side of the
stage. How this is accomplished is a conun-
drum that is not easy to answer. Mme. Herr-
mann 's part in each performance is highly in-
teresting.
At the Star Theatre, Sardou's great play
" Diplomacy, " has been revived, and is given a
representation that rivals its production fifteen
years ago by the old Wallack Stock Company.
Miss Rose Coghlan, who won great commenda-
tion as Countess Zicka in the original cast,
appears in the same role now and her splendid
acting is adding to her fame. Mr. Frederick
Robinson, the original Count Orloff, sustains
the same character with admirable effect. The
part of Julian Beauclerc is taken by Mr. John T.
a total of 1,800 performances in England and
Australia, has been remarkably well put upon
the stage at Niblo's, with admirable new and
appropriate scenery. The company is an excel-
lent one. The play is original, forcible and
attractive, and promises to become a popular
favorite.
The Imperial Music Hall, 29th street and
Broadway, was opened for the first time last
Monday night. The theatre is elegantly deco-
rated. The auditorium is filled with seats, on
the back of each of which is a little shelf for
glasses. Whoever desires to smoke can do so and
waiters are on hand to help those who want
something to drink. The program during the
week has resembled those given at Tony Past-
or's and Koster & Bial's, and has been excep-
tionally fine.
Harlem Opera House. " The Jolly Surprise."
Miss Fanny Rice. During her tour abroad last
summer Miss Rice obtained several new songs
and specialties, which she has introduced with
excellent effect in her revised presentation of
"The Jolly Surprise." Miss Rice's ability to
entertain her audiences is well known, and be-
ing ably supported by Charles Bradshaw, Mark
Sullivan, and other members of an exception-
ally good company, the show is a decided suc-
cess. Miss Rice is a great favorite with the
public and well deserves the hearty appreciation
she receives.
Fourteenth Street Theatre. "The Idea."
Hallen & Hart. These successful caterers to
the public's love of comic entertainment have
been delighting large audiences throughout the
week. " The Idea " abounds with amusing in-
cidents, jokes and songs, and there is some ex-
cellent dancing. In the first act a pretty duet
is sung by Mr. McWade, the original Capt. Cor-
coran in "Pinafore," and Miss Fuller. Mr.
Wilson's "Steerage Dutch" excites a great
deal of laughter. '' The Idea '' oveflows with
fun and as a natural consequence the theatre
overflows with people.
Proctor's Theatre. " Ye Early Trouble." The
scenes of this uncommonly interesting drama are
laid in the old revolutionary times of this coun-
try, and the play abounds with historical inci-
dents that intensify its dramatic character.
Many humorous features are introduced, which
relieve the effect of the startling situations and
increase the attractiveness of the performance.
The company is able and well qualified to give
the play an admirable presentation. The mem-
bers act their respective parts with a thorough-
ness and ability that command approving recog-
nition. The drama is splendidly staged. Some
of the scenes are so effectively realistic as to ap-
peal strongly to the patriotic American heart,
and the theatre is crowded nightly by enthusi-
astic audiences.
THE Winchester drum corps has been organ-
ized by Geo. Shepard, of 56 Winchester avenue,
Niblo's. "Current Cash." This comedy New Haven, Conn.
melodrama, which was first produced in Man- L. A. T I F T CAMP, Sons of Veterans, Spring-
chester, Kngland, and has since been played for field, Mass., is organizing a drum and fife corps.
