Missouri River" is again at the full tide of success and
good fortune.

of the stock in the company and takes the general man-
agement uf their retail department, which will be con-
tinued in the store now occupied by him. This com-
pany is, we believe, in a very prosperous condition, and
is spreading its business steadily throughout the State
of Michigan. It is backed by the most influential busi-
ness men in- Ann Arbor. We take pleasure in reconv
mending dealers to put themselves into commnnication
with it.
A NOTABLE exhibit at the Mechanics' Fair recently
held in San Francisco, Cal., was that of Benj. Curtaz &
Sons pianos. The magnificent instruments of this old
California house were shown to greot advantage. No
firm in the trade has a better, or a better deserved, repu-
tation. The visitor to the fair was struck by three
points in reference to this exhibit—viz., the superiority
of the pianos shown, the fairness adhered to in the selling
of ihem, and the extreme moderation of the prices asked.
Curtaz & Son handle the Steck, Hardman, Vose & Sons,
Sterling, and Schwechten pianos, and the Smith Ameri-
can organs.
HERLICH & Co., of Paterson, N. J., who were burned
out in June last, have recommenced the manufacture of
pianos in that city.
PHU.LIPS & CREW, dealers in pianos, organs, and sheet
music, Atlanta, Ga., have issued a circular containing
an imposing list of purchasers of their pianos, among
them being Governor John B. Gordon, Ex-Governors
McDaniel and Bullock, Hon. J. T. Glenn, Mayor of
Atlanta, and a great number of other officers of state,
judges, clergy, and educational and other institutions.
THE
MCCAMMON PIANO-FORTE CO., Albany, N. Y.,
give constant evidence of their energy and of the qual-
ity of their products. At the State fair, which is said
to be the largest and best patronized exhibition ever
made in the vicinity of Albany, the McCammon pianos
are objects of special attention. These fine instruments
are rapidly advancing in public favor.
AN elegant blotter, issued by Vose & Sons Piano Co.,
Boston, Mass., serves to remind dealers that the demand
for the Vose pianos during the past three years has ex-
ceeded the production, and that a little care taken in
placing orders early in the season will insure a stock in
hand when purchasers rush madly in.

large and splendid organ operated by electric motor,
and furnished with this firm's renowned reed and pipe
combination. Messrs. Clough & Warren exhibit, in
addition to a number of their fine pianos and organs,
several Decker Bros, and Everett pianos, for which
they are the Michigan agents. A specially interesting
feature of the exhibit is that showing the various stages
of the construction of the Clough & Warren pianos, six
men being busy at the various processes of action-finish-
ing, stringing, tuning, regulating, and so forth. The
pianos turned out by this eminent house are of the
medium and higher grades. They show some new and
beautiful decorations in floral designs, etched on the
hard finish case.
THE Koehler Piano Co. have leased the old factory
of Krakauer Brothers, at Nos. 729 and 731 First ave-
nue, between Forty-first and Forty-second streets, N.Y.,
and are rapidly becoming settled in those quarters.
They have already booked many orders for their new
piano, which is attracting eager attention throughout
the country, and in the course of a tew weeks will be in
a position to fill orders promptly.

ljUge fall trade. Mr. Louis Kaemmerer, of this house,
who recently returned from a European trip, is much
better and stronger than before his departure from this
country.
,
THE S. D. Lauter Company's new piano rooms, New-
ark, N. J , were opened on the 21st inst., the occasion
being celebrated by a musical entertainment. The
rooms are well stocked with pianos and organs of various
makes. An extensive sheet music department will be
a notable feature of the concern.
THE firm of Stevens & Sharp, of Corry, Pa., who
opened a music store in that city in April last, have dis-
solved. The business will be continued by Mr. Stevens.
MR. HOWARD WHITE, of the Wilcox & White Organ
Co., Meriden, Conn., who is making a short business
trip in the interests of his house, visiting their agents
in Pittsburg, Pa., Washington, D. C, Philadelphia, Pa.,
and Baltimore, Md., reports that business at their fac-
tory is in an extremely prosperous condition.
THREE magnificent Conover pianos in English oak,
mahogany, and figured walnut cases, and some beautiful
Worcester organs with mirror tops and burl panels were
exhibited by J. F. Waterman, of Montpelier, Vt., at the
State fair held at the beginning of last month at Bur-
lington, Vt.
MATHUSHEK & SON were very busy last week, ship-
iog pianos from their factory in 125th street, N. Y.
Their hitherto satisfactory business bids fair not only
to be maintained, but increased. Orders are rapidly
coming in, and a heavy fall trade is being prepared for.
This is the nearest piano factory to the proposed site
for the World's Fair of 1892.
MR. L. L. DOUD, secretary and treasurer of the A. B.
Chase Co., of Norwalk, O., recently completed a most
successful and enjoyable trip through the East. The
outlook for trade generally, he says, has never been
brighter in his experience. The A, B. Chase Co. have
been crowded to their full capacity for the last two
months. Their surplus stock has disappeared, and they
are working on orders from day to day. The health of
Mr. Mowry, the widely-known and esteemed traveling
agent of this house, is improving as rapidly as can
be expected. He is out of bed much of the time, and
can take a short ride when the weather permits. This
will be welcome news to his legion of friends in the
trade.
