SEVERAL stockholders of the Tonk Manufacturing
Company, Chicago, 111., have purchased the controlling
interest in the Garden City Stool Company of that city.
This was formerly held by the Chicago Cottage Or-
gan Company. The business will be continued wkh
increased vigor under the new management.
No man connected with the piano trade would doubt
any assertion made by Mr. Samuel Hazelton, of Haz-
elton Brothers, the eminent New York dealers and
manufacturers. The reputation of this firm is indeed
founded on a rock, and their business, which is with the
most distinguished and substantial people, fluctuates as
little as any. Their customers, like themselves, know a
good thing, and stick to it when they get it. This ap-
pears to be the reason why Hazelton Brothers keep a
standing order with William Tonk & Brother, Warren
street, N. Y., for the Herrburger-Schwander actions,
which they have, used almost from time immemorial.
When one comes to investigate the magnificent condi-
tion of the Hazelton pianos, even those that are a quar-
ter of a century old, the disinclination to abandon the
old action is fully accounted for,
MYRON A. DECKER, of Decker & Son, N, Y., is mak-
ing a pleasure trip on the Pacific Coast, accompanied
by his wife and daughter. The party spent a few days
at Portland, Oregon. While in that city Mr. Decker
made several pleasant calls upon Mr. H. Sinsheime^
sole agent in Portland for Steinway & Sons' and Etecker
& Son's pianos and the Story & Clark organs.
RUFUS W. BLAKE has almost perfected his new scale
for the parlor grand piano ot the Sterling Company,
Derby, Conn. The new cases for this style of instru-
ment, which are now ready for the varnish room, will
be models of beauty and elegance.

Mr. George W, Sheffield, of Akron, N. Y. Mr/Sheffield,
who handles the Haines Brothers and Schubert pianos
and the Newman Brothers and Farrand & Votey organs,
reports that his business is lively and entirely satisfac-
tory.
ON the same day called Mr. M. B. Gibson, Secretary
of the Weaver Organ & Piano Company, York, Pa., who
gave a splendid account of his firm's business.
THE Weaver Organ & Piano Co. of York, Pa., notify
us of the exceedingly nourishing condition of their
trade. They are not able to fill the orders which they
now have on hand, and until their facilities of output
are increased will make no effort to widen their scope
of operations.

warerooms, soon to be opened in New York city.
MR. GEORGE COOK, of the Hallet & Davis Co., Bos-
ton, Mass., is making an extended western trip.
MR. HENRY KROEGER will start on a western tour in
a few days. He will be accompanied by Mr. R. W.

have lost the services of Mr. R. E. Hull. Their loss is
the gain of The Computing Scale Co., of Detroit, Mich.
TifE business of the Farrand & Votey Organ Co.,
Detroit, Mich., is booming. Their success is another
proof of the wisdom of making a good article. Their
trade for the first four months of the present year
shows a distinct gain over that of the corresponding
period of 18S8, and their sales for the latter year were
forty per cent, greater than those occurring in 1887.
WE regret to announce that Mr. H. P. Mowry, of the
A. B. Chase Co., Norwalk, O., who has been making a
tour of the agencies of that distinguished house
throughout the Eastern States, returned home from
Boston, Mass., on the 27th ult., stricken with typhoid
pneumonia. Mr. Mowry is confined to his bed, and his
physicians give up hope of his getting out under two
weeks at least. The business of the A. B. Chase Co. is
remarkably good.
VERY many years have elapsed since Mr. Carpenter,
now of the E. P. Carpenter Co., of Brattleboro, Vt., be-
gan the manufacture of organs, and during this lengthy
period the Carpenter organs have maintained the high-
est possible standard. Even now, however, well and
favorably known as they are, the E. P. Carpenter Co.
are as keenly alive as ever to the value of advertising.
Their latest essay in t, is line is a neat card, one side of
which contains " a simple story about the Carpenter
organs," and the other a colored figure of a winsome las.
sie, holding flowers and a music roll, and wrapt in ecs-
tacy by the harmonies of the Carpenter organ to which
she is listening.
STRAUCH BROTHERS, N. Y.,are having a most pros-
perous business. Their new action factory, which will
be twice as large as their old one, is rapidly nearing
completion. Mr. Albert Strauch has started on a tour
among the Western trade, and will return in about three
weeks.
