T
NE of the best known houses in the piano trade,
to-day, is that of Christie During the past twenty-five years their pianos
have been before the public and they have met with
universal favor.
Jacob Christie, the senior member of the firm, is
thoroughly conversant with every part of the instru-
ment, and it has always been his motto, not to see
how many pianos could be made, but to see how well
he could make them to fill the wants of his cus-
tomers. His principle has had a great deal to do
with the standing of the firm at the present time.
Since they started in a modest way in 1859, their
trade has steadily increased, until now they are in
receipt of more orders than they can fill for weeks to
come. Some firms, if they were receiving such orders
as this firm are, would at once commence to enlarge
their factory facilities and rush into other expend-
itures, but not so with this one. They are satis-
fied with the present volume of their business, and
instead of increasing the number of instruments, to
try in every way to improve the quality of their pro-
ducts and have nothing but select agents. They have
recently added a series of improvements to their

increased orders of their old agents testify.
