Editorial
Hello, and welcome to the July issue, although by the time this reaches you it will
probably be August! Time always seems to be at a premium for me, but lately I've
had so much to do, in particular getting a few machines ready to operate at Brighton
for the school holidays, that there just hasn't been time for the magazine. I made a
gentle hint last month for some help with articles, which hasn't yielded any great
response! So I'll try again - I really do need some help, particularly at this time of
year, which is obviously my busiest at Brighton. OK, I'll beg - Please Help!
A few months back, I said I planned to feature Carters' Steam Fair in the
magazine. Well, part one is included in this issue and I shall continue next month
when I shall feature the arcade. However, I'd really like some pictures of the arcade
in the early days, as although I first saw the arcade in it's first year, I didn't take any
'photos - silly me! Anyway, please help if you can.
Ivan Farrow contacted me recently with news of a place to visit. There are no
slot machines there, but could none the less be an interesting venue. Ivan collects old
bagatelle games, and two of his games are on display at The House of Marbles,
Bovey Tracy, Devon. So if you're down that way, it could be worth a visit. Anyway,
it occurred to me that it might be interesting to hear from other readers who collect
something in addition to slot machines. As some of you will know, I collect saucy
seaside postcards (which are a lot cheaper and take up a lot less space than my
machines), which are sort of related to slot machines, in a very loose sort of way! So
let me know of anything else you collect - we might get some interesting responses.
And finally, I couldn't let this mooth pass without mentioning the bloody weather. I
just about managed to restrain myself last time, but I can do so no longer! May and
June were an absolute disaster for me at Brighton, and I know other operators who
have also done very badly. However, we should all spare a thought for the thousands
of people who have had their homes and businesses flooded, and I suspect there must
be someone reading this who has been affected or at least knows someone who has. I
sincerely hope the summer (what's left of it) improves for us all.
On a lighter note, if you can make it down to Brighton to see me at Mechanical
Memories Museum during the school holidays, it would be great to see you.
