The 1983 A TE will be held at
London's Olympia. At the time of
going to press no dote hod been
fixed but Organiser foe Burnip
said: "The decision to move bock
to London hos been token and we
are negotiating on dotes. "
There was a strong body of
opinion in favour of returning to
London after complaints from
overseas visitors about the
difficulties in getting to
Birmingham and the comparative
lack of social focili ties in the
Midlands.

• Mel Yates, AFM, pours the champagne to celebrate his
company's award.
The 1982 A TE, the first to be held outside
London, closed with mixed feelings. It broke all the
records - there was more floor space covered than
at any previous show and the 206 exhibitors added
up to the highest ever total.
Facilities at the NEC, Birmingham, were first
rate and business on the whole was good. But many
exhibitors said they preferred London, mainly
because visitors were prepared to spend longer at a
show held in the capital.
For the first time in four years video games had
to take a back seat and awps claimed the limelight
with pinball machines showing definite signs of a
major recovery.
The train strike and pre-show weather, both the
subject of major stories in the overseas Press,
formed a double blow and the overlap of the Frank-
furt show did not help matters.
• Harold Phillips, left, Managing D irector and Gordon Berryman, Chairman, of Ace. with the machine that won the BACTA award
for best coin op game in show. Fred A lexander, extreme left, and Frank Manzi look on.
