NIPPON DATA'S NEW FACTORY
KEEPS THE CUSTOMERS HAPPY
• Peter Tattersall.
It must be frustrating
for operators, when visit-
ing the manufacturers
and suppliers, to have to
visit several units within
several separate build-
ings and even in different
parts of town, as is the
case with some compan-
ies.
Ever mindful of the
needs of the operators,
Nippon Data Industries,
who recently completed
their move into riew
premises on the Millshaw
Park Industrial Estate,
Leeds, have managed to
house every aspect of
their operations under
one roof.
Managing Director
Peter Tattersall told me:
"A customer can now
walk through our doors
having had every question
answered. "We have
tried to place every
industry under one roof.
The manufacturing, con-
version, sales and dis-
tribution, service and
spare parts departments
are all here in the one
building ," he said ,
proudly indicating the
large, spacious, well-lit
complex.

conceivable aspect of the
trade," said Peter, " this is
what the trade has asked
for. "
Peter Tattersall is an
energetic man with an

abundance of faith and
enthusiasm in the indus-
try. He started his career
in the sales and marketing
side of the tobacco indus-
try. In fact he still owns a

company in York.

frequently asked about
video machines - which
aroused his interest and
brought him into the
industry.
Peter formed his own
company, Servo Tronics,
in Doncaster, and started
selling equipment to
engineers in the industry.
It was through this that he

met Tony Good, now his
co-director.
Tony Good started in
the industry with Music
Hire Group in 1976 and
started the manufactur-
ing side of MHG. In 1979
he formed his own
company - Good Elec-
tronics for one year when
he diversified the com-
pany into operating and
formed AT Leisure with
Trevor Iveson and Peter
Andrewg, Peter also form-
erly worked with MHG
and is now Sales Director
of AT Leisure.
Tony continued to man-
ufacture machines whilst
Trevor carried on with
the new operating com-
pany. On forming a
separate conversion and
sales company Peter
Tattersall joined them
and Nippon Data Indus-
tries was formed. They

their combined efforts has

in three models: compact,
upright and table. How-
ever, they feel that the
market is moving severely
into conversion.
' ' A customer can walk
in here with eight video
games and have them all
converted for the price of
one new machine,'' said
Peter.
" We do not only the
U.K. but also overseas
conversions as well for
Germany, South Africa
and Norway.
" I see the company
very much into conver-
sions for the next three to
four months,' · said Tony
Good, " until the new plug-
in module system comes
in.
" We provide a good
flexible unit here with
good engineers, and good
technicians . We like to
be as flexible as we
possibly can ," Tony
continued.
"In this industry you've
got to be flexible. It's no
good building separate
empires. We look at a
market and we adapt to
it. "
Trevor Iveson spent 17
years with Music Hire
Group as product mana-
ger and was responsible
for evaluating and buying
video games. He now runs
the operations side of
Nippon Data and will be
getting the sales side of
AT Leisure off the ground.
AT Leisure have already
been appointed as dis-
tributors of Sound Leisure
Services' wallbox and
hideway units.

sions and manufacturing,
Nippon Data are also dis-
tributors for Summit Coin
and Hazel Grove.
" The demand for pool
tables recently has been
astronomical." Peter Tat-
tersall told me.
"We would be only to
pleased to welcome enqui-
ries from other companies
interested in using us for
distribution," he said.
Continuing with his
summary of his company
Peter told me: ' 'Between
Tony, Trevor , Peter and I,
we have got quite a lot of
experience in the indus-
try.
"As I say, our business
here has been designed
specifically for the trade.
We do everything under
the same roof. Manufac-
ture, convert, sales and
distribution, service and
spare parts . So far it has
paid dividends - ifs so
important.

" We do customers re-
pairs on the spot," he
continued, " and do a 24
hour turn-around service
in videos.
" Ninety per cent of my
time is spent in marketing,
sales and customer rela-
tions. I get all over the
country, " he concluded.
Peter Tattersall is
certainly not a man to let
the grass grow under his
feet. On the day that I
visited him, whilst the rest
of the country were enjoy-
ing a public holiday and
watching the Royal Wed-
ding on TV, he sold 20
machines!
