COMMENT
The dark clouds which settled over the
video game industry in recent months have
brought many a worry line to the foreheads
of leading personalities in the amusement
machine industry.
It is therefore refreshing to digest the
comments of David Rosen, Chairman and
Chief Executive of Sego Enterprises Inc. (see
pages 9 and 11). Mr. Rosen has carried out a
splendid analysis of the video game
industry, looking very closely at its future
prospects. His observations should be
closely studied by everyone in the video
game industry.
Mr. Rosen is in no doubt about the
future. He is confident that the video game
• industry HAS got a future ... and ave~ bright
one. He points out that computer video
Leisure Play - December
games are an active rather than a passive
form of entertainment. They appeal to vast
numbers of people who prefer this type of
active entertainment to slouching in a chair
watching television or paying to watch
other people play sport or present a show.
To those pessimists who feared a
wholesale collapse of the video industry he
points out that our industry is truly an early
manifestation of the electronic revolution
which is just now starting to make serious
inroads into our daily lives.
He also points out thar fhe recent years
of prosperity have given rise to instances of
abuse which at times has placed the
industry in a negative light.
Mr. Rosen's observations are essential
reading for everyone in the video game
industry.
