its "rarity," mostpre-warpingames arefairly rare as many were
"scrapped" during the war. I have heard in recent years of
several being offeredfor sale in various parts ofthe country and
a friend of mine in southern California currently owns one.
Also due to its apparently long production, it is probably not as
rare as many of the less popular games of the period
Incidently,
the 1940 BILLBOARD ad hailed it as "the
bartender's choice."
Now to your Williams "Sweethearts. "In regard to obtaining
a schematic for it,
Williams Electronics in Chicago has
available for purchase schematics for most of the Williams'
machines. I have obtained schematics for machines made as
far back as 1948 from them.
Their address is 3401 N.
California St., Chicago, IL 60618. The currentprice, I believe,
is $6.80. If you want to find out if they have one before you
write, you can call them at (312) 267-2240 and askfor theparts
department They are usually very helpful.
Asforpictures ofthe cabinet artwork, this will be a little more
difficult. I know of no way to get a color picture of the cabinet
without finding someone else who owns a "Sweetheart" that
has not been repainted. A black and white representation could
befound in advertisementsfor the machine in tradepublications

them coming."
Regarding your Mills 1-2-3, it was first advertised in the
trade publication BILLBOARD in August 1939. I own a copy
of that same publication from September 1940 in which it is
also advertised, so it was kept on the marketfor over a year and
maybe longer. Quite a long run for a game in those days. As to
like BILLBOARD but these are generally only found in very
large city libraries. The date of the BILLBOARD ad would be
somewhere around May, 1950. Probably the best way to find
out is to try to remove the paint on your machine with
sandpaper uncovering the original paint (assuming the old
paint was not stripped offat the time new paint was applied, but
this is very seldom the case). This is very time consuming but it
