held them that went on the front of the machine. Is there a Coin
Slot Guide for this machine? Also, do you know where there is
one of these machines that I could take photos and measurement.
Any help you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated.
Keep up the good work on your magazine. I truly enjoy
reading it and look forward to receiving it each month.
Sincerely,
Bill Bloomer
P. S. If you use the picture in the magazine, please include my
telephone number (206) 641-0466 in case a reader can help me
with this machine.
Dear Bill,
What a beautiful Berger CHICAGO RIDGE, and yes, we do
have a Coin Slot Guidefor the machine. It's Guide No. 23 for
the Bergerand Cowper electricfloor machines ofthe turn ofthe
century. In fact, with two serial numbers (see, even then they
switched and matched!) it's like finding two dated machines.
The numbers show that your Berger was put together in the
middle ofMay, 1898 based on other numbers already known.
You're lucky.
You're missing "software," or a wooden
component that can be reproduced. All the hardware seems to
be there, except the reward card frames.
Can any collectors out there help Bill Bloomer? He needs a
top to borrow or measure, reward card frames and the cards.
Give him a call at (206) 641-0466.
Sincerely,
The Editor

Dear Editor,
Enclosed is our check in payment of a two year subscription
renewal to The Coin Slot. We are very pleased with the progress
you are making with your magazine.
Enclosed are photos of two machines we acquired in 1981. the
Jennings is a STAR CHIEF which came out of the hotel New
Frontier and is 5C play. The serial number is 193,567.
The War Eagle is also 5

Could you please provide the year of manufacture for each
machine? Also, would you know the whereabouts of the Hotel
New Frontier?
One final question — would you prefer color or black and
white photos for use in publication?
Sincerely,
Robert A. Vicic
Dear Robert,
Interesting stuff, and thanks for the pictures. Do we want
colorphotos, orb&w? Well, b&w reproduces better on our letter
pages, but it doesn't really matter. A fairly good photo in b&w
or color will come out pretty good, so what ever is the most
convenient for you is fine with us.
We passed your serial numbers on to the Update, but we kept
yourpictures to show here because, well, they're interesting. For
one thing, you rarely see a Jennings STAR CHIEF. It's a
variation of the SUN CHIEF made for Nevada use around
