the springs you need to get the beauty back into almost
brand new running order.
Best of luck in your restoration.
P.S. We sent your pictures backlike you asked. But it's
a shame as (hey look so great. But rather than take the
chance on losing them fas printers often do) we sent them
back. If you ever want your machine illustrated send us
some pictures the printer can lose and that neither you or
us will feel bad about.
Dear Editor,
I am enclosing two pictures of my Operators Bell-serial
number 190232. This Mills has a Jackpot Poinsettia front
and works well on half dollars. It has skill buttons and a
gold seal award device, though gold seal awards on the
reel strips. I have been told this machine may have been
made for English Export. My question is, are there any
special block of serial numbers specifically assigned for
export machines? Is this an English penny machine?
Also, add my serial number SB 684-for Exhibit Supply
Company-5C Silver Bells-to your serial number update.
Thank you for any information on my operators Bell.
Sincerely,
Richard Lintner

While it looks a bit like the "Poinsettia" it's quite a bit
different. It's a later add-on jackpot front, and the fact
that it has a GoJd Award makes it 1932 or later.
Fact is, it's a new front on us, and that large gooseneck
does certainly suggest a Ib. "English Penny" machine.
More than likely it is an export—or converted—machine
with an English front. An English Jb. machine will play
a half dollar.
It seems that export serials were random, so there's no
way to take a serial number and know if it's English, or
French, Italian or German. The coinage does that.
Thanks for the serial on the Exhibit SILVER BELLS
console. That's a rarity, and American as apple pie.
Regards,
Editor
Dear Editor,
I have a 1C slot that only pays on cherries. Two cherries,
bar, plumb and orange pays 2C. Two cherries and lemon
pays 4. Three cherries pays 12.
Wheel #1 has 2 bells, 3 cherries, 1 pear, 1 bar and 1
lemon. Wheel #2 has 2 plumbs, 2 oranges, 2 pears, 3
cherries and 1 bar. Wheel #3 has 1 cherry, 3 plumbs, 1 bell,
3 oranges, 1 bar and 1 lemon.
I can not find a serial number on it. Would you please
advise me where to find the number and give me some
idea of what it is worth.
Thank you,
Dalton Baltz
Dear Dalton;
Thanks for your letter of December 1st asking for
information about your 1Q slot machine, and its value.
First off, the serial number should be on the front at
upper right, on the metal casting above and to the left of
the playing handle. That's provided that is is a standard
3-reel BeJJ machine. But we can't tell what it is from your
description as it fits so many machines by so many
manufacturers we can only draw a blank.
Tell you what. Send us a photograph of the machine and
we'll be able to give you some answers.
The Editor
Dear Editor,
Before I start the usual request for help, I'd like to add
a couple of machines to your serial number updates.
First is a Mills JACKPOT FRONT VENDOR (Single
torch) S/N 273,643. This is a 5

strips and originally had a "Free Play" feature but that
mechanism was removed. The print date 7-29-31 on the
reward card along with the S/N seems to place it well
into the "Silent" machines production. The second
machine is a Jennings DUCHESS S/N 20807. It apparent
ly started life as a penny gum-ball vendor (I found 3 pen
ny trade tokens in it's bowels) but later acquired a 5c
mechanism and the converion was never completed.

Dear Richard;
Thanks for the serial numbers. We've plugged them into
the updates.

This brings me to the request for help. I would like to
know the original paint trim and colors on both machines
but primarily on the "DUCHESS". I also need the
following parts for the "DUCHESS": Rear door (original
or repro with lock). Coin chute (from pay-out tube to cash
box), stop lever for 1st reel (mine's broken), repro cash-
box (if it had one) and metal award card.
