Editor's Statement
You have probably heard the old expression that "You
can catch more flies with honey than you can with
vinegar." Granted there are very few of us who want to
catch flies, but the concept is still very good and it can be
applied to something close to our hearts. In last month's
issue of The Coin Slot we had several news items of
machines which were confiscated and of some being
destroyed. We have had word of the same thing occurring
in other states recently.
We have also received word from one involved party
that some one in the industry advocated "going after" the
police officials and judges in the appropriate state who
themselves owned "illegal" machines. Standing back and
reviewing this suggestion would lead one to conclude that
the officials were being offered vinegar rather than honey.
It would bear a definite resemblance to getting rid of
wasps by striking their nest with a stick. The resulting ef
fect in both cases would be a lot of stings and discomfort
for which one asked. Not only that, who knows how many
of these "officers of the court" might be willing to stand up
and be counted when a state is on the edge. Frankly, we
need all the help we can get, whenever we can get it.
Pointed fingers have a nasty habit of turning around on the
pointers.
Our position has always been one of honestly at
tempting to change the laws by working within the
parameters of the judicial and legislative system. Dick
Rosanna
Harris
Bueschel, Bill Harris and I are ready and willing to be of
any assistance. The important point is not who is ready to
help, but how you go about decriminalizing the ownership
of slot machines. The opportune time is NOW to start
working with a legislator in your state. Don't wait until your
position is in jeopardy.
In our section by the map you will see that people in
both North Dakota and Montana are actively pursuing the
change of their state laws. We have also received letters
from people whose state already has an affirmative law,
but who desire to change the law to a "25 year" law. We
would suggest that you use the editorial in "An Illustrated
Price Guide to the 100 Most Collectible Slot Machines
Volume 2" as your reference. Dick Bueschel wrote it
specifically to help you in getting the laws changed. We
would also suggest that you get a copy of the laws from
both Illinois and Wisconsin as both of these are "good" 25
year laws.
Good iuck in your quest and please remember we will
help.
