Dear Editor,
I am a small scale collector (10 machines) who insists
on authenticity in restoring my machines. To this end, I
have pored over your books searching for dates of
manufacture and original color schemes, and driven Bob
Lanfranco crazy with questions, many of which he can't
answer. I wonder if you might be able to find time to help
me with some questions regarding three recent ac

the rate new "ideas'' in restorations are being created
we'll lose sight of what the original machines looked like.
Keep it up Bruce, and we'll he glad to answer ques
tions at any time. Particularly thanks for the SASE.
I've got to say this. I received over 80 letters in
December asking questions, and while I really want to
answer all of them it has gotten to be a tremendous
burden. That's really why I wrote the books — to answer
the questions once and for all.
Then comes a really good question, and I drop
everything eJse. Your questions are food.
To tackle them:
1. You ask if your Mills JACKPOT, serial 199,330, 5 cents
play, is rare because it has the "left hand" jackpot
dump and two cups. It sure is, because it isn't a Mills
JACKPOT "Poinsettia". While it looks like a "Poinset-
tia", it's actually a Mills Bell from about 1928, either
an OPERATOR BELL or a JACKPOT "Torch". What
has happened here is that the rather rare Keeney
(that's right! Keeney 6r Sons!) POINSETTIA JACKPOT
FRONT has been added. Keeney virtually duplicated
the Mills front for the "Poinsettia", but couldn't tap
into the payout cup at the right. So they made their
own jackpot cup at the left, and the regular payouts
came out at the right just like always. As for the color
scheme, it's correct as you have it in your color photo.
Don't touch a hair on this thing; it's right.

2. The Watling TREASURY serial L-73, 929 (you didn't
enclose the photo you mentioned) is probably around
1938 production, which is just about the time that they
started with their own cabinets. There are "Gold"
TREASURY and "Blue" TREASURY machines, and
we can't tell if you have one or the other without the
photo.
3. The Watling ROL-A-TOR, serial ROL-65,774, was
never plated anything. Watling was cheap, and they
just painted their machines. Any brass plating came
later, in restorations. But Watling; they just painted
gold, and did a sloppy job of it at that. Vender fronts
seem to be slightly preferred, but all of that is fad
dish. Any ROL-A-TOR is a beaut.
Editor
Dear Editor,
Enclosed is my check for $25.00 for a one year sub
scription to The Coin Slot. I have been interested in the
history and collecting of antique slot machines for
several years and am very much looking forward to
receiving The Coin Slot.
Also enclosed is a news story copy from the December
12th Great Falls Tribune about the confiscation of two
antique slot machines. I thought it might be of interest. It
is a shame that the laws have not yet been changed in
Montana. I am in hopes that such a bill will be in
troduced in the upcoming Montana legislature. Is it pos
sible to obtain a current list of all states that now permit
collecting antique slots?
Regarding your letter of November 18th answering my
inquiry about Coin Slot Guide #25,1 am enclosing a photo
of a machine and ask if you can confirm identification. It
is on the right, and very similar to the "Mills BLACK
CHERRY" on the left. Placement of the cherry orna-
