Gentlemen:
I am enclosing a photograph of a 19th century coin device
which might be of interest to you for your publication. The
coins are placed in at the top and follow a labyrinth course down
the metal slots to the coin repository. It was made in England.
Very sincerely,
Stanley Marcus, Dallas, Texas
Dear Stanley,
A very interesting machine, indeed.
The machine appears to be from the 1898-1904 period, and has
earmarks of the Harris patent in England. That might mean it was
made by Jacques, or Urry or some of the other leading British coin
machine makers of the period. There seems to be no indication
from past records that would suggest that it ever entered the
American market at that time. In fact, the Americans were very
choosy, preferring their own chance machines, with the English
machines left very much to themselves. I am assuming that this

Dear Gil,
Excellent article on the Reno Auction!
list of prices of the different machines.
I really enjoyed the
The only negative com
ment is I would have been interested in the prices of the other
machines too!! Overall you're doing a great job - I like the variety.
Like most collectors, slots are my favorite, but I also have juke
boxes, pinballs, cash registers, etc.

Dear Dale,
Thanks for your comments!

Dear Coin Slots,
Enclosed is my check for $20.00. Please extend my subscrip
tion to The Coin Slot for another year.
Your January issue featuring the prices at the Antique Gambler
auction was really super!
Your coverage and listing of prices of
the machines is definitely far superior to the Loose Change Mag!
I wish you would have thrown in some of the modern machine
prices. Although most collectors won't go out of their way to
obtain them, I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the
price was low enough.
Your inclusion of these prices would have
been valuable. Most collectors have no conception of what these
newer (used) models sell for.
