from the highway department had to be
called to complete the load.
Marshall County Sheriff Destroys
Slot Machine, Gambling Equipment
LACON — A Las Vegas gam-
bier would have cried if he
could have been here this
morning.

against a 1910 model nickel slot
machine.
And John McAllister, a state
trooper, helped load 181 boxes
of gambling paraphernalia into
two dump trucks headed for a
shredding machine in Minonk.
The equipment, said at the
time to have a "street value'* of
$100,000, was seized last Oc
after the equipment was sup
pressed as evidence in a hear
ing in January.
But last March the court
found the equipment to be gam
bling devices and ordered them
destroyed.
Police carried out those or
ders today. Sheriff Crew took
the hammer to the slot ma
chine in front of the jail.
The boxes filled with tip
boards, punch boards, pull tabs
and gambling records were de
ming from the discovery of the
equipment was dismissed after
a search warrant was sup
pressed for insufficient evi
dence about the identity of the
complaining witness.
The witness, whose identity
remained anonymous, tipped
police about the equipment in
the Clark garage.
