Industry Will Goin By
New Confidence
Many trades and industries have in recent weeks been
led to renew their confidence in the soundess of the Ameri-
can way of doing things. and to take a more optimistic
view of what the future may hold in the way of opportunities
for expansion.
This came about when. for many months. everybody had
been expecting coIIapse and then a rather normal adiust-
ment from postwar peaks set in. rather than a complete
collapse. So. many industries have decided that the future
is safe and that aggressive effort will still pay a profit.
It is well understood how operators were hit by innation.
when they could not very well raise their prices to a level
in keeping with things in general. It is also weII understood
that relief from innation is not coming very fast. nor in
a way that will start the coins to piling up in machines of
all types. Consumers are not getting relief from innation
that last. but the public is getting some relief and is having
its confidence restored in things.
Business has had its vision and confidence revived by
the lact that there is still plenty of money. more people at
work. a higher standard of living. and more goods being
consumed than ever be/ore. This picture has given business
a new ambition to ioin in a general drive this fall to get
more business.
The Coin Machine Industry. in all its branches. normally
renews its activities in September each year-and most
signs point to the lact that the Industry has pretty well
settled back to normal. October is here now and everybody

recognizes all those signs which mean that things are pick-
ing . up. They really began showing in August and are
pretty definite.
It is quite plain that the business activity of the country is
being helped by so many firms and industries renewing
their confidence in the outlook. in making a deliberate
effort to build up business. The movement has been so
widespread that most everybody is ioining in and every-
body wiIl be helped.
Some have expressed the idea by saying it is a case
01 renewing confidence in the United States. our own
nation. the country in which we live. realizing again that
it is the best country in the world and offers more in the way
01 opportunity.
Whatever it is that' renews confidence. it reaches out
into industries and also to individuals that are a part 01
trades and industries.
The coin machine trade will certainly be helped by the
spread 01 confidence into many fields. and reaching so
many lirms and individuals. II confidence really takes hold
on the masses. it will show up in the millions of coin
machines over the land. And that is what everybody in the
business wants.
A pertinent question now asks what each operator can
do to help the cause along; what each distributor and
manulacturer can do.
Certainly. the coin machine trade should deliberately
renew its confidence in the nation and in its own luture as
a business. It was hard to adiust Irom the peak war days
and a period that lollowed. but it had to be done and now
that the varied industries 01 the country are showing new
confidence in the outlook. let the Coin Machine Industry
show a new aggressiveness that will include every operator.
All branches 01 the Industry have shown a remarkable
stability. during the war and after it. There were some who
thought the war. as it stretched out for so long. would mean
the end of such a business. But the coin machine business
came through with much honor to its lactories and to the
trade in general, The boom that was so strongly hoped· lor.
in the postwar adiustment. didn ' t come and. instead opera-
tors had to adiust before many other trades were compelled
to level off.
Many think enough leveling off has been accomplished.
and now is the time lor renewed confidence. The coin
machine trade will gain by this confidence and should
take a big part in it.
Laymon Has Bally Fall Line
LOS A GELES-Paul A. Laymon returned here on September
26th after atteritling a distribu tors' meeting a t the Bally plant in
Chicago and previewi ng some new additions to the Bally fa ll line.
"Amazing, amazing, that's all yo u ca n say," was Laymon's only
comment on the new numbers. "Bally has reall y ou tdone them-
selves this time and in just a few days we'll have samples to prove
our statements," he concluded.
