MUSIC FOR MASSES REMAINS 5 CENTS
Bobby Soxers' fun
Stays at Nickel
Chicago, 111., November 23-
Despite reports that nickel-operated
phonograph music would go to ten
cents a tune, Marshall Seeburg,
President of the J. P. Seeburg Cor-
poration of Chicago-large manu-
facturers of coin-operated phono-
graphs-stated:
"We feel that since the five cents
a tune phonograph is the music of
the masses, it will remain the em-
phatic policy of this company that
Seeburg phonographs will continue
to present music for a nickel.
"The national convention of See-
burg distributors, held in Chicago,
November 21 and 22, covering ·
every state in the union, unani-
mously adopted a motion that this
will also be the policy of the entire
Seeburg distributing organization.
"The nickel-operated phono-
graph is a favorite of children of high
school age. affording them enter- .
tainment by America's best bands
for a few cents. We feel that such
clean fun is a good influence and a
deterent to child delinquency. We
are opposed to the 100% increase
in the price of their pleasure."
