Bally Enters Music Field
Licensed fo Make
Gabel Phonograph
CHICAGO-Ray Moloney, president of
Lion Manufacturing Corp., producer" of
Bally games and vendors, startled the in·
dustry recently by arulOuncing that his or-
ganization will start delivery of a coin-
operated phonograph as soon as materials
are available. Early delivery of the Bally
Phonograph, Moloney explained, is assured
by the fact that The John Gabel Manu-
facturing Co. has granted an exclusive
license to Lion Manufacturing Corp.
to manufacture the Gabel phonograph
mechanism.
"I wish to emphasize," Moloney said,
"that The John Gabel Manufacturing Co.
will continue to manufacture the Gabel
Phonograph for distribution through Gabel
distributors. The fact that the Gabel
'mechanism will be incorporated iIL the
Bally Phonograph simply means that
a greater number of operators will be able
to take advantage of the recognized sim-
plicity, sturdiness and superior tonal qual-
ity of the Gabel mechanism.
"The Gabel mechanism, which will be
built int!l the Bally Phonograph, is a new,
improved model which Gabel engineers
completed just prior to the outbreak of the
war. This model, which includes many
new features desired by operators and de-
signed to increase play, is, of course, based
on the experience of the Gabel organiza-
tion in the forty-two years during which
it has produced successful phonographs.
Bally engineers have added their contribu-
tions to ·the Bally phonograph, utilizing
their vast pre-war experience in the coin-
operated field, as well as the war-time ex- .
perience in preci'sion production which has
won a three-star Army-Navy "E" Flag for
the Bally plant. Nationally famous stylists
have produced a line of cabinets for the
Bally Phonograph which is destined to
usher in a new era in brilliance and eye-
appeal."
