Demand for Arcade equipment presages
a big season ahead and local jobbers and
distributors have been hard pressed to sup-
ply the machines desired_ On ly a few have
any stock of Arcade pieces to speak of and
all are scouring the Eastern .markets for
additional machines. Memorial Day is gen-
era ll y considered the opening of the season
and Labor Day its closing, but in semi-trop-
ical California the Arcade is in season the
year around, and simply undergoes a bright-
ening up and refurb ishing when Spring
rolls around.
Bringas and Trevino have purchased th e
music operations of Charlie Peverly in Ox-
nard and Peverly will spend more time in
the future on his real estate activities.
At a specia l meeting of the Associated
Operators of Los Angeles County on March
29th, director Curley Robinson acquainted
the membership wi th the seriousness of sev-
eral bills pending in the California Assem-
bly. Curley is spending co nsiderable time in
Sacramento working on the matter. Also at
the capitol in the interest of the industry is
George Miller from the California Music
Operators Association, and Robert Spencer
representi ng the San Fra nci co men .
Efforts of coinmen in the Hollywood sec-
tor to place Jim Crowe in the city council
proved futile for Crowe went down to num-
ber five position when the votes were tallied.
Richard A. elson, of Gilt Edge records,
has joined the Chamber of Commerce.
Aubrey S temler is back in town from a
business trip through the Pacific North·
west.
Charlie Robinson left by train on April
6th for a buyi ng and business trip taking
him as far north as Montana and through
Wyoming on back to Wisconsin.
Harold Klein, of Klein Novelty, Milwau·
kee, has arrived on the Coast for a vacation
and is spending considerable time with Bill
Happel at Badger, discussing old days in
Wisconsin.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaunt and twin sons
are now located in their new home in Brent·
wood.
New operators going into the service in-
clude Bill Day, cigarette operator of Glen-
dale, and Vic Mausbach, Tehachapi .
Bud Parr has been tell ing about a hold-
up man who leaped out of a dark doorway
and held up a passer-by. When the victim
threw up his hands, his coat fell open and
the robber could see that he was a priest.
Apologetically he wi thdrew his pistol. "Ex·
cuse me, Father," he said, "I didn't want to
hold up a priest, but 1 need money badly."
The priest apologized also. "I'm sorry, too,"
he ~aid. :'1 ~~~~ no chang,~ o~ me, but
here s a cigar.
No, thanks, said the rob-
ber gruffly. "I gave up smoking for Lent."
Incidentally, Parr is buying and selling a
lot of routes these days.
E. L. Willard has purchased the music
route of Mike Goff in and around Temple-
ton and San Luis Obispo.
No Sir! We're Not Going Out of Business!
