Chefs Amazed at
Groetchen Cooker
CHICAGO-History was made recently
when the Chefs of Cuisine Association of
Chicago held their meeting at the plant
of the Groetchen Mfg. Co. A group com·
prised of some 150 of Chicago's leading
chefs were given a visual as well as a
"taste-ual" demonstration of the sensational
Groetchen Rotary Cooker.
The steaks served in connection with an
excellent meal were cooked with incredible
speed right before the eyes of all the chefs
present, on the new Cooker which utilizes
the new patented process of cooking by
"Reflected Heat." The steaks which were
"all cooked to order" brought forth many
compliments on their flavorful goodness.
All the natural, inherent juices, vitamins
and minerals in these steaks were sealed
in-thanks to the Groetchen Rotary Cook-

Many of the chefs present commented
not only on the excellence of the cooking
method, but were also very mindful of the

smoke; thus making it possible for the food
to be prepared right in the dining room
in full sight of the diners. The excellent
general catering job in addition rounded
out what was generally regarded as one
of the most pleasant as well as instructive
meetings held by the group in some time.
All present unanimously agreed that the
Groetchen Rotary Cooker is destined to
revolutionize restaurant, hotel and institu-
tion cooking.
The Rotary Cooker cooks by gas and is
powered by electricity (1/6 Horsepower
Motor). The cost of gas consumption is ap-
proximately 6c per hour per burner. The
principle is simple. In the upper compart-
ment of the Rotary Cooker aluminum cas-
seroles are preheated to 450· Fahrenheit.
In the making of steaks, chops, fish, fowl
and other meats-the cook merely puts
the steak or chops in the casserole. The
compartments from left to right are rare,
medium and well-done. These are timed as
follows: rare-3Jf2 minutes, medium-4Jf2
minutes and well-done 6 minutes.
The Groetchen Rotary Cooker although
just recently introduced i's already in use
in outstahding restaurants in California,
Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, New
Jersey, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Texas, Missouri, etc.

Please, Mr. Operator, don't come to Chicago!! The Sherman
Hotel has been reserving the week of March 18, '46 for the Coin
Machine Industries, Inc. and they had to know by the 16th of
this month whether there was going to be a Coin Show or not
. . . so Jimmy Gilmore, C.M.1. secretary, called a meeting. for
the evening of Wednesday the 14th at the association headquarters
which are now at 134 N. LaSalle Street, Room 508 ... just kitty
comer from the Sherman Hotel.
This time there was quite a turnout of members including such
out·of-towners as Bill Frey of Miami, and Ray Diedrich of Na-
tional Vendors, St. Louis. The practically unanimous decision of
the manufacturers was NO SHOW. Only two members voted yes.
Someone suggested that perhaps a wildcat show would be held,
promoted by some outsider, to which quite a number of small
manufacturers would be willing to purchase exhibit space. This
argument immediately disintegrated when it was pointed out that
the hotel situation in Chicago is such that accommodations for
an event of this nature would be impossible to obtain.
Dave Gottlieb, president of the association, was ill with the flu,
and naturally could not be present. As far back as I can remem-
ber, and that is quite a long time, this is the first absence of the
intrepid president. The secretary did the best he could as provi-
sional chairman. Most manufacturers feel that they could not get
any merchandise ready for exhibit. To display some hand-made
models, and not be able to promise definite delivery dates would
be detrimental to the business rather than beneficial. The con-
sensus of opinion is that the time should be used to concentrate
on getting out the manufactured products, to devote all energies
to making as early deliveries as possible, rather than to sidetrack
the production lines in order to build something for show pur-
poses.
The only excuse for a show this year would be to entertain the
CLEAN CONSOLES
thousands of operators who would trek to the Windy City for a
good time. The manufacturers are of course glad to entertain .and
glad to greet the boys, but they would much rather keep working
and deliver the goods. They are having a tough enough time now
worrying about materials and labor, without having to worry about
the good customers' room accommodations, or tickets for shows
and sports events. So please Mr. Operator, pretty please . .. don't
come to Chicago! The hotels are crowded to the gables. There
have been booked into this town over 1200 legitimate national con-
ventions for the coming twelve months . . . the town can only
comfortably accommodate about 900 conventions ... plus the in-
flux of military personnel with their relatives who MUST be
taken care of; so you see what a terrific burden is placed on all
the hotels. If you still don't believe that the hotels can't take care
of you here, and if you still believe that with a wad of extra ma-
zuma, you can buy yourself a room, just ask any American Legion-
naire Delegate about the situation here. You know the American
Legion is holding its annual convention here right now, and the
delegates are having to double up, to say nothing of the regular
mine-run legionnaire who used to flock to conventions by the hun-
dred thousands and made the affair so colorful. There are 2000
rooms for 3000 delegates, so figure out for yourself where the buck
private and his wife are going to sleep. No, pal, don't even try to
BUY a room around here, there just AIN'T any, at any price.
Among the members of C.M.!. who were present were John
