Los Angeles
March 15th has rolled by and lads and
lassies of the Coin Machine business have
sent along enough "Morgenthau Lettuce"
to assure a bumper crop in the Treasury
Department. "The Take" is up in all parts
of the Southland and returns for the first
quarter passed the first quarter of last
year, according to the grapevine.
Operaiors continue to exchange civilian
garb for the "free" cl.othes Uncle Sam
supplies to individuals entering the ser-
vice. Latest entries include Clarence Phil-
bin and John Hawley to the army; Arthur
Weiss in the navy; Bob Cardiff, San
Miguel, to the army; Al Cicero, San Luis
Obispo in the Merchant Marine; and Glen
Henson, Fresno, in the army.
Lucille and Paul Laymon drove over to
Riverside to attend the March 3rd wedding
of Cpl. Dale Cooper to Betty Louis Holmes
of Riverside. Dale is the son of operator
G. F. Cooper, and is stationed at March
Field near Riverside. Couple honeymooned
at Laguna Beach.
Another wedding of the month was that
of Frank Root to Margaret Nagy of Los
Angeles. Bride had served as a secretary
for the Fullerton Oil Co., and the bride-
groom is a veteran of the coin machine
.business and currently operating his own
liquor store in town.
Recent out-of-towners visiting South-
western Vending included Joe Grater, Ox-
nard; C. A. Weber, Ridgecrest; and O. N.
Crafts picking up equipment for the Ar-
cade on his Carnival. Incidentally Harry
Kaplan's son, Louis, a sergeant in the air
corps, is now in the Philippines.
Neal -Gellser, Milwaukee, is here looking
over the field and hopes to go into the op-
erating business. Gellser was' a former op-
erator for Bill Happel in the old days
back in Wisconsin.
The order register at Laymon's recorded
the following in during the past month:
Stanley Tracy, Kingman; Raymond Rey-
nolds, Big Bear; Dick Gallagher and Dick

Sgt. James Fausett spent most of his 17
day furlough back in Long Beach where
the boys all knew him as Hymie when he
made Joe Richarme's offices his headquar-
ters. Fausett brought along a new bride.
. He is now stationed at Randolph Field,
Texas.
Gene Laurant, San Luis Obispo, has re-
ported for army duty.
Nick Carter has classified his Nickabob
Sales Co. as "Skee Ball Headquarters" for
western operators and a visit to the estab-
lishment will convince you of the sincerity
of his assertion. The place is filled with
used Skee Balls, parts and supplies, and a
refinishing department has been set up to
recondition games to the point where they
present a brand new appearance.
Carl Collard, San Bernardino, is recu-
perating from a recent operation.
Ben Corenblum is on a vacation to Birm-
ingham, Ala., to visit his mother.
Influenza has made its regular winter
visit and those entertaining it included
Dolores Minthorne who spent the better
part of a month at home; Lucille Laymon,
who still has the sniffles; Bill Leuenhagen
and Al Slick who were bedded down at
home for a couple of days. Say the pair:
