The new pennies, made fr.om an amalga-
mati.on .of pure c.opper and brass shell
cases, c.ontain 5 per cent zinc. They will
replace the tin-c.oated steel c.oins minted
when the c.ountry faced an acute c.opper
sh.ortage.
The tin-c.oated pennies will n.ot be called
in fr.om circulati.on but will be retired as
they wear .out.
