so unimportant will become the pur~
chasing ce nter for a thriving factory. So the
wise operator is going to keep thi s trend in
mind, and establish himself just as con~
cretely as possible as the towns come into
their own . Who can say what "tank town"
of today might not become an important
distribu tin g cen ter with dozens and dozens
of profitable locations for coin~controlled
equipment in the very near future.
These facts, and many more, prove why
an operator should not become to.o self·
suffi cient, but should maintain an open
mind at all times and never discard a
prospective location or possible fu ture lo~
cation until he has thorou ghly checked into
the s pot and appli ed the yardstick of sound
thinking and reasoning and given the spo t
a chance to prove its own worth.

CAMDEN, N. J.-Servi cemen have been
vying for honors in th e self~impo se d co n ~
test of thinking up lon g involved titles to
bestow upon their favorite pin~up gi rls.
Take a long breath and read the one given
to Victor's Dinah Shore by the South Pa~
cific Marines. It is : "The Girl We' d Most
Like To Dream Of While In A Coma Re·
sulting From Malaria Con tracted on Guad~
alcanal." That's all, brother!

out that you love him?"

LOS ANGELES - The last month has
been a husy one at W. H. Leuenhagen &
Co. with a lot of the boys in to see Bill
Leuenhagen, purchase equipment, and wish
him well in his new service to operators.
Equipment sales have been brisk and op~
era tors have taken to the new specialized
service provided, like a du ck to water. Cap~
able mechanics are on hand to care for any
needed service on marble ga mes, phono~
graphs, amplifiers and remote control mu·
sic installations,
Among those spotted on th e day this re~
porter visited the establishment were
Johnny Nelson, Dave Trojan , Jack Fogel,
M. F. Tillotson, Lon g Beach and Irvin
Gayer, San Bernardino.
Frank Reichard, formerly with General
Music Co. and J ean Min thorne, has joined
the firm to handl e sales.

L. A. County Assessed Values
Deemed Fair
LOS ANGELES-With assessment time
just ahead operators are naturally thinking
of falr assessments for their equipment.
In Los Angeles County a schedule has been
prepared covering the various types of coin·
controlled equipment and prominents in
the industry deem the figures to be fair
insofar as assessment values are concerned.
THE REVIEW is publishing the 1944
schedule for equipment in Los Angeles
County for any value it might have for
operators elsewhere in getting a fair con·
sideration on their assessments.
Tobacco Held Up
LANCASTER, Pa.- Tobacco growers in
thi s area are refusing to sell most of their
37,000,000 pounds of choice leaf tobacco
claiming that the price set by the Office
of Price Administration is too low. Set
figures are 21 cents a pound for wrapper
leaf, 7 cents a pound for filler and ID
cents a pound for ungraded crops. Most
of this tobacco goes into cigars and stogies.
Down in Raleigh, N. c., it is stated that
growers received an average of 49.44 a
hundred for 3,919,720 pounds of burley
tobacco sold on the Asheville and Boone
markets in December. North Carolina
growers have received an average for the
season of $40.76, or $1.28 above the prices
paid to January 1st of last year.
