Kleer-Flo Unit Installed
LOS ANGELES.-The E. T. Mape Music
C.o. has installed a Kleer·FI.o chassis wash·
ing mechanism and is n.ow .offering this
added service t.o music .operat.ors in the
West.
The unit is n.othing m.ore than a g.o.od
bath f.or a mechanism with the cleaning
s.olvent directed where it will d.o the m.ost
g.o.od. A filter keeps the s.olvent clean and
a f.orced n.ozzle sh.o.ots the cleaning stream
int.o, and thr.ough, the m.ost rem.ote parts .of
a mechani m. The entire bath, plus a c.om·
plete lubricati.on j.ob f.or the mechanism,
requires less than tw.o h.ours and a brisk
business is being enj.oyed .on the service.
Hat for Hedda
HOLLYWOOD - Spike J .ones and his
rub·a·dub·dub City Slickers are featuring
a new tune these days entitled A Hat For
Hedda Hopper. In retaliati.on Hedda has
designed a City Slicker Hat, an amazing
lid c.overed with tin whistles, kaz.o.os, and
tiny c.owbells. Hedda calls the chapeau her
"d.ouble duty" headpiece. She plays it as
well as wears it.
The J.ones b.oys have c.onsulted the musi·
cians' uni.on claiming a pers.onal f.oul.

several years .of .operating aut.o·

an .operat.or t.o gain the .opini.on that he
kn.ows just ab.out all there i t.o kn.ow ab.out
.opera ting, that he can size up a l.ocati.on
practically fr.om the curb and kn.ow whether
it is w.orth while instal ling a ph.on.ograph in,
and if s.o the vintage machine the sp.ot is
w.orthy .of. Sad it is t.o.o, that such .opini.ons
.of .one's .own judgment are all.owed t.o f.orm
f.or m.ore .often than n.ot the .operat.or will
find his .opini.ons were c.ompletely wr.ong.
S.ome .of the mQst pr.ofitable and success·

expect such grQsses and the intelligent
.operat.or will ferret .out these sp.ots and n.ot
let a pre·supp.osed Qpini.on deter him in the
least.
OperatQrs are essentially salesmen fQr
after installing a piece .of equipment each

business there f.or him, and hurried .on t.o

that paved r.oads had extended the trading

m.oney t.o spend in t.own.
The same c.onditiQns have affected the
music .operat.or. Out·Qf·the·way sp.ots are
d.oing m.ore bu iness tQday than ever bef.ore
because .of their easy accessibility t.o a
restricted area ar.ound them. Gas rati.oning

gaudy tinselled establishments on a busy

An.other imp.ortant fact.or tQ keep an eye

the rural t.own which seems destined tQ play
an increasingly imp.ortant r.ole in the ex·
pansi.on .of American business. There is a
far·reaching m.ovement .on fQQt to decentral·
ize industry. The last depressi.on taught in·
dustrialists that the .only way .our c.ountry
c.ould be made depressi.on·pr.o.of was t.o
make it p.ossible f.or w.orkers tQ have en.ough
gr.ound ar.ound their hQmes s.o that in an
emergency, such as we had in 1933 and are
again sampling t.oday, they can gr.ow things
they eat. Obvi.ously this plan is n.ot feas·
ible if industries are l.ocated in big cities.
They have t.o get .out intQ the c.ountry, and
that is what they are d.oing and will c.on·
tinue t.o d.o just as fast as they can.
L.o.oking ahead a few years it is easy to
see where many .of these t.owns which n.ow

so unimportant will become the pur~
chasing ce nter for a thriving factory. So the
wise operator is going to keep thi s trend in
mind, and establish himself just as con~
cretely as possible as the towns come into
their own . Who can say what "tank town"
of today might not become an important
distribu tin g cen ter with dozens and dozens
of profitable locations for coin~controlled
equipment in the very near future.
These facts, and many more, prove why
an operator should not become to.o self·
suffi cient, but should maintain an open
mind at all times and never discard a
prospective location or possible fu ture lo~
cation until he has thorou ghly checked into
the s pot and appli ed the yardstick of sound
thinking and reasoning and given the spo t
a chance to prove its own worth.
