Token Peril Grows
CHICAGO- Co S. Darling, secretary of
the National Automatic Merchandising As-
sociation, reports that for the week end-
ing April 22nd over 7,000 ration tokens
were found in vending machines in vari-
ous parts of the country. In most cases
the tokens clog the machine and necessi-
tate a service call. Other times the tokens
stick, open the machine and cause a con-
tinuous delivery of merchandise.
The NAMA, The American Transit As-
sociation and the telephone companies
have been uniting their efforts towards
getting the OP A to change the size of ra-
tion tokens to one inch in di'ameter which
would not work in any of the r especti ve
devices.
Tokens have been found in cigarette and
candy machines, postage stamp machines
and also in automatic machines vending
War Savings Stamps. They are a problem
also in fare- coll ecting turnstil es and in
pay telephones.
