Parina Doing Well
New Penny a Headache
SAN FRANCISCO-According to Dick
Parina, R. A. Parina & Co. are enjoying a
nice business on their reconditioned cig·
arette machines being offered operators ex·
clusively through advertising in THE RE·
VIEW.
"We've had several ads on our machines
in THE REVIEW," said Dick, "and the vol-
ume of business has been very pleasing. In
each ad we have carried our famous
money·back in 30 days guarantee and we
have yet to refund on any machines we have
sold. This certainly speaks well for the
condition of the machines we are sending
out to our customers.
"We enjoy reading THE REVIEW and
think it is the finest monthly trade publ i.
cation in the Industry."
WASHINGTON - The Treasury Deart·
ment is receiving protests ro mpenny ma-
chine operators and organizations to the
effect that the ne Lincoln penny, made of
steel and zinc, will not Ilroperly opera te in
most penny devices equipped with slug
ejectors for the new metal combination
will be thrown out by the epee tors.
It is estimated that there are in the
neighborhood of 3,000,000 such penny de·
vices in the country and the operators main-
tain the new penny will ruin their busi·
nesses should the coin be given wide circu-
lation.

Machines Ordered Returned
PHILADELPHIA-Another victory for
the marble table operators was chalked up
here on February 9th when Judge Byron A.
Milner in Quarters Session Court ordered
the return of 91 of a total of 102 machines
confiscated by the police in March of last
year. The ruling stated that only 11 of the
machines could be properly classified as
gambling devices and be destroyed and
that the remaining 91 should be returned
to their owners.
The Milner decision ended litigation of
nearly a year, during which time the rna·
chine~ made frequent appearances in court
as attorneys sought to prove that they were
not gambling devices. In deciding the is·
sues Milner relegated machines employing
registers and "knock·out buttons" to the
gambling ca tegory and stated that ma-
chines aying off in free games are not
illegal.
This ned decision favoring the operators
follows closely on the heels of a reversal
of opinion on the part of the Pennsylvania
State Supreme Court which opened the
way for the return of marble games to
operatin.
Operators hailed the two decisions as
resaging a lush era of operating for loca-
tions are begging for equipment in storage
since last March.
