needle for coin phonographs, has been
shortened to Permo, Incorporated.

LOS ANGELES-A new opportunity· for
cigarette operators to increase their profits
and do their locations a service at the same
time is being offered by Irvin Part of the
Cash Wholesale Tobacco Co.
It is a well·known fact that there is a
scarcity of cigars retailing in the 6c to 1Sc
bracket for most of the larger manufactur-
ers are releasing their cigars only to the
major outlets. The smaller merchant is
practically being shut off. However Cash
Wholesale Tobacco Co. is well supplied
with cigars retailing from 6c to 1Sc and is
offering cigarette operators an opportunity
to get into the wholesale cigar business.
"We are already serving several Cigar-
ette Operators," stated Irvin Part, "and we
invite other operators to come in and get
acquainted with the proposition we have
to offer them."

Zoot Suiters Stampede
LOS ANGELES-The war between the
Zoot Sui'ters of Los Angeles and Uncle
Sam's fighting Sons of Freedom has come
to an end and operators of Arcades in the
downtown area are plenty happy.
The battle broke out in earnest the first
part of June when the men of the Armed
Forces took matters in hand and roamed
the city attacking and de-zoot-suiting zoot
suiters wherever they found them. The-
aters, cafes, bars, Arcades, and sundry
business places were fine-tooth-combed by
the soldiers and sailors and many a zoot
suiter lost his pants, coat, vest and "face"
at the hands of the military.
Condition was far from pleasant and
some Arcade owners attempted to keep
zoot-suiters out of their Arcades to fore-
stall any trouble. Theaters felt the same
way and when the soldiers and sailors !le-
scended upon a theater the management
turned on the house lights so the zoot-
suiters could be quickly removed and dealt
with.
Los Angeles was declared "out of bounds"
by the navy department as a result of the
skirmishes hut the order was lifted on the
14th and Arcades are once more enjoying
the patronage of our men in uniform.

Arcade Ban Sought
BOSTON - Maintaining that Arcades
contribute to juvenile delinquency an order
has been approved by the City Council ask-
ing the city censor to revoke licenses of
Arcades in the downtown sector.
Just how the city censor is to revoke such
licenses is undetermined for the city of
Boston licenses only the coin-operated mo-
vie machine of the many machines making
up an Arcade. Whether or not the city
censor could close the entire Arcade by
revoking the movie machine license remains
to be seen.
