WASHINGTON - The first meeting of
the Coin Machine Industry Committee with
OP A deputies got under way here on De-
cember 1st in a closed meeting so that
members in attendance might express them-
selves free ly. Membership of the Commit-

ganization and election of officers, discu -

That the OP A is seriously interested in
working with the Committee in solving
price ceiling problems i evidenced by the
tremendous research done in this field in
recent week. Under the capable direction
of George Toomey, OPA has made a thor·
ough study of the business so that its depu.
ties can cooperate intelligently with the
Committee members on Industry problems.

LONG BEACH, Calif.-According to
Ba il E. Leever of the Long Beach Tele-
gram Bing Crosby is the nation's favorite
crooner so "let's get on with the war."
Wri ting in the
ovember 26th issue
Leever said "The currently controversial
question-Crosby or Sinatra ?-was an·
swered to our complete satisfaction when
Jerry, our favori te counter girl in our noon
sandwich emporium, stated that the old
crooner was still the favorite of the juke
box addicts who patronize her establish-
ment.
"Currently there are six recordings on
the record selection list where you drop
your nickel in the slot. The 'swooner' has
the edge with four of his recordings on the
list. Bing has only two, but, according to
Jerry, the patrons work these two records
overtime, and only play the Sinatra offer-
ings to fill the gaps between.
"Of course, there are some 20-odd rec-
ords on the list, most of them orchestra-
tions, which get a good play, but Bing still
has an edge on all of them when it comes
to attracting the nickel-dropper·inners."
Feel Bad, Boys
LOS ANGELES-Music and coin movie
operators should be the saddest lot of men
in the country today if a recent press re-
lease by Twentieth Century-Fox is correct.
Said the release: "Twentieth Century-
Fox swept the coin machine field clear of
its royalty with the signing of brunette
Cissy Marr, 'Juke-Box Movie Queen,' to a
long. term contract. Singer Dick Haymes,
' King of the Juke Boxes,' is already under
contract to the studio and is working in
'Four Jills in a Jeep' with Carole Landis,
Kay Francis, Mitzi Mayfair and Martha
Raye.
"Miss Marr, Brooklyn magazine cover
girl, came to the attention of studio execu-
tives when she was selected from among 40
of Hollywood's loveliest glamour girls for
Technicolor closeups in tbe lavish opening
sequence of 'Pin-Up Girl,' Betty Grable's
starring musical."
