The Lock that resisted
TEMPTATION
• • •
T hieves armed with lock picks or stillson wrenches were
usually wise enough to leave an ILCO sever ely alone. T hat's
because ILCO COIN MACHINE LOCKS wer e built to
resist picking and f orcing.
OK before the war- even better after the war!

APRIL
1943
FRESNO, Calif.-R. A. Talbert, coin
machine operator and novelty dealer, be·
came the proud owner of an American
made wooden propeller taken from a Japa.
nese plane captured at Guadalcanal when it
was awarded to him for purchasing $50,000
in war bonds at a Victory Auction here on
March 17th.
Four propellers were auctioned off. First
went to Edward Melikian, father of Fresno's
fighting hero, Captain Ray Melikian, for
a bond purchase of $15,000; second to
Joseph Dale, coffee merchant, for $20,000
in bonds; third to Talbert for a $50,000
bond purchase, and the fourth was pur·
chased by a group of patrio tic Fresnans
to be awarded later to the elementary school
recording the largest number of bonds
and stamp sales in the present drive.
Propaganda Book Issued
LOS ANGELES.-"Enemy Propaganda;
Words Are Weapons" is the ti tle of an in·
formative booklet being distributed by the
Radical Research Commission of the Amer·
ican Legion Department of California of
which Curley Robinson, AOLAC Managing
Director, is Secretary.
In explaining the purpose of the booklet,
Captain George Con treras explained : "Be·
fore we were attacked at Pearl Harbor,
8
IF YOUR REVIEW IS LATE
only limited success attended our efforts of
investigating subversive activities. Our ene·
mies had lulled us into a false sense of
security. We were unprepared to meet the
propaganda attack upon our home front .
To remedy this situation we have issued
this booklet in the hope that it will assist
in destroying enemy propaganda in th is
country."
Each month THE REVIEW is mailed
from Los Angeles in w h at would n or-
mally be ample time to reach you after
the regular publication date. If your
REVIEW is late. it is because of condi-
tions beyond our control. Despite the
fine job the overloaded trans portation
systems a r e doing. all kinds of deliv-
eries in wartime are uncertain. Military
s upplies must take precedence over
civilian shipments.
