OCTOBER
1942
lJ issed on the Coin Mach ine rialto in Los Angeles these days is genial Bud Parr. owner of
G eneral Music Co .. who poses he re with Baron . his highly trained Doberman. Bud is now occu-
pied in war work and is contributing magnificently to the all-out war program .
General Music Active
LOS ANGELES-Despite the frequent
absences of owner-manager Bud Parr, the
local office of General Music Co. continues
to be busy supplying the needs of local
musicmen in the same fashion the San
Francisco office is serving musicmen in the
north.
'
General is one of the prominent music
supply houses in the state and has a very
enviable record of service to the music men
in these parts. Through the years music
operators have come to know that General
holds their interests as paramount consider-
ation.
Now with head-man Bud Parr engaged
in vital war work and only in the office for
very limited periods, his cherished motto
of " It Shall Be Done" is being reflected in
the actions of the members of the General
Music staff in handling the needs and re-
quirements of western musicmen.

PORTLAND, Ore.-When Ace I. Arns-
berg, head of the Northwest Amusement
Co., donates scrap he does it in a big way,
and a recent issue of the Portland Ore-
gonian carri'ed a two-column picture of Ace
and part of his contribution.
Included in the pile were some 5000 keys,
250 pounds of wire and pinball parts, 300
pounds of brass and 500 pounds of alumi-
num. "Pinballs in Scrap With Jap," said
the caption over the picture of the smiling
Ace and his pile of ~crap .

CHICAGO.-One of the busiest and
largest war plants in the entire nation is
the coin machine industry's Rock-ala Man-
ufacturing Corporation in Chicago, headed
by its President, David C. Rockola.
Since the early beginning of the Rockola
organization back in 1929 in a small one-
story, thirty foot store out on 67th Street
in Chicago, the company has grown rapidly
to its present mammoth proportions with
a plant occupying several city blocks and
co mprisin g today over one million square
feet of floor space. The United States Gov-
ernment has recognized this outstanding
factory for heavy schedule of war produc-
tion.
The war production at Rock-Ola has been
growing by leaps and bounds. Each suc-
ceeding month has brought greater assign-
ments in war work.
Mass producti'on is not new to Rock-Ola.
Rockola was the first coin machine manu-
facturer ever to use a mass production
system in the production of coin-operated
games. This occurred back in 1934, when
the famous games, "World Series" and
"Jig Saw," were produced by Rock-Ola on
a continuous conveyor system at the rate
of 1400 per day.
Modern production methods have, during
recent years, also been in effect in this
modern daylight plant in the production of
Rock-Ola coin-operated phonographs, weigh-
ing scales, furniture and other civilian
goods.
David C. Rockola, in speaking of his
firm's mammoth war production program,
sta ted: "We got off to a flying start on war
work by securing o,u r first direct contract
with the government two years ago. There-
fore, it is to be expected that we are far
advanced at this time, in assisting the
United Nations' War Program. Women
workers are a big fac tor in our plant. It
is surprising how quickly we can train a
woman to run practically any machine i"n
the factory. By early next year we shall
have approximately 3,000 workers."
