" It's wonderful! Wonderful, I tell you!
P ositively wonderful! " You' ll hear it a
dozen times a day around the Decca offi ce,
where Joy Davis and Virgini a Mattern can·
not reconcile thei r emotions to th e ecstasy
of being in love. Joy's ·heart·throb affair
culmin ates on June 27 when she and Dave
Barry, a Seattle College accountant, trip
down th e middle aisle. Virginia's pulse·
pound er is Bob Floren, Iowa engineer, em·
ployed at Boeing Aircraft.
"Curly" Gohr tried to show Operator·
Race Horse Owner Al Brash em the proper
method of training nags, and wound up
with a horseshoe plastered to the seat of
his trousers and a hos pital cot n ext to hi s
skin . .. Vet Operator Cliff Knowles' 22·
year-old son Bob has resigned from the
faculty of the Moses Lake primary school
to join the Navy. Right now he's specializ.
ing in physical education at Norfolk, Va. ,
where h e'll soon b e commission ed an officer.
The Vacation Ball h as started rolling-
Margaret P ennick is massaging the type-
writer keys after a two· week refresher in
Calif.ornia . . . C. R. Merrill, form erly with
Northwest Sal es, is now shining for Nat
Schoen in Portland . .. Tom Curry, Harper·
Meggee's Portland man ager, h as added
"also Seattle branch manager" to his call-
in g card now that Maybel Dace has exited.

NEW YORK- F or th e first time since
War II started, th e U. S. Treasury Depart-
ment this month has a campaign to sell
War Bonds and Stamps which employs al-
most all the tri cks and techniqu e common
to advertisin g. Schedul ed to run durin g
May and sponsored by the drug industry,
the campaign may finall y show the Govern·
ment how advertisin g can help fi ght the
war. The goal: $20,000,000 worth of 25c
War Stamps.
For the first time th e promotion specifies
th e war material whi ch mon ey spent for
stamps will buy. Window stream ers, coun-
ter cards and newspaper copy will all push
stamp sales. Radio will be used. Druggists
plan, wherever possibl e, to give their cus·
tomers change in ·quarters, slipping each
quarter into a littl e card which says : "This
quarter will buy 12 bullets. Use it to buy

wood with no criti cal materials embodied in
them, can be promptly suppli ed to all op-
erators in unlimited quantities and provide
one of the best good-will items ever offered
an operator to leave with his locations_
Both machines dispense coins in multiples
of five, ten or twenties, nickels or pennies,
accurately and promptly. Th e devices are
unbreakable and foolproof, occupy little
space and are being welcomed by bars, tap-
rooms, cigar stands and penny arcades
wher e they have been found to speed up
play, increase location profits and create
customer good-wilL Machines hold either
200 nickels or about 250 pennies, can be
easily reloaded and have no mechanism to
get out of order.
Prices quoted by Western Distributors
are so attractive that dozens of operators
are buying them to leave with their pre-
ferred locations as a good-will gesture and
Wright is allottin g territory to distributors
on an exclusive franchise basis_
