Coin Machine Review (& Pacific ...)

Issue: 1942 May

YOU Rat e a s a
Vendinu Machilfe Operator?
It's a blank· filling time. You have-or
will have-blanks to fill out for taxes and
licenses, for military service, and for civilian
defense duty. With all of that, you should
be in a proper mood to fi ll in one just for
your own personal gain-and you should
be able to do it as conscientiously as you
would any of the others .
The blanks have to do with your business,
the operation of vending machines, from
which you make your living. The import·
ance of the blanks is just as important to
you as it is that you make a living, and
whether you fill them correctly or not,
there's some sound suggestion in each ques·
tion that should help you to increase your
business, do a better job more quickly,
more easily, more efficiently.
Actually, the blanks form a test of your
rating as a vending machine operator.
There's noth ing very hard about it, the quiz
is about like the ones your youngster gets
-in school, or like the ones you may have
taken in school save, as we say, that it
applies to vending machines.
So whip out your pencil. Don't think
too much about each question before you
answer it. Your first reaction is most likely
to be the correct one. And don't peek at
the answers. After you've fini shed, then
look. If you've hit fifteen out of fifteen,
you're on the top-and don' t fall off! If
you've gotten less than fifteen of them cor·
rect, you'd better do so mething about it.
Here they are:
1. Do you vend merchandise you y.ourself
wouldn't eat? yes ........ No ........ .
2. Do you let locations talk you out
of a bigger commission than you ordinarily
pay? yes ........ No.........

find another machine already installed, what
would you do? ........ 0) Walk out. ........ (2)

mine whether the service from the machine
was satisfactory to the location.
6. When servicing machines to which of
the following would the location liken you?

of the House of David . ........ (3) Benny, the
Bum. . ....... (4) A business man.
7. Do you keep an accurate and conci,~
record of every machine on your route?
yes........ No ........ .
8. Do you make a periodic survey of
your terri tory? yes........ N.o ........ .
9. How about that personality- does the
location rate you as ........ 0) a friend ........ .
(2) a wise guy ...... , .. (3) an old sourpuss.
(Be truthful now '! )
10. Would y.ou be able to prove identity
of your machines if the occasion ar.ose?

ments of the location? yes........ No ........ .
12. Do you let idle machines accumulate
for want of a few repairs or adj ustments?

program, weeding out the deadwood and

pense, etc. ? yes........ No ........ .
15. Is your selection of equipment de·
termined by ........ 0) price. . ....... (2) actual
location test ......... (3) efforts of high pres·
sure salesmanship?
Now turn to page 9 for the correct an·
swers, and be prepared to burst some but·
tons .off your vest, or crawl under the desk.

NEW YORK- F or th e first time since
War II started, th e U. S. Treasury Depart-
ment this month has a campaign to sell
War Bonds and Stamps which employs al-
most all the tri cks and techniqu e common
to advertisin g. Schedul ed to run durin g
May and sponsored by the drug industry,
the campaign may finall y show the Govern·
ment how advertisin g can help fi ght the
war. The goal: $20,000,000 worth of 25c
War Stamps.
For the first time th e promotion specifies
th e war material whi ch mon ey spent for
stamps will buy. Window stream ers, coun-
ter cards and newspaper copy will all push
stamp sales. Radio will be used. Druggists
plan, wherever possibl e, to give their cus·
tomers change in ·quarters, slipping each
quarter into a littl e card which says : "This
quarter will buy 12 bullets. Use it to buy
