after a year on Victor, switches to Blue-
bird and his first four sides will have
Dinah Shore as singing foiL A recent
check on Barry's patriotic discings showed
sales of over 500,000_
Red Norvo and his new band will be
forthcoming shortly and Mildred Bailey
will sing the vocals_
The International Sweethearts of
Rhythm, femme band, have just received
a lett& from a nudist suggesting that the
whole band unfrock for stage appearances
as a publicity stunt for nudism. "Swing
musicians especially," said the cultists,
"could play better in the nude because im-
provisation requires complete freedom, and
clothes cramp body and spirit. The back-
to-naturalist also cited the savings in
clothes and band costumes. P. S. The
girls still wear clothes.
Sammy Kaye debuts in pictures this
month and hopes for an "Oscar." Glenn
Miller is also on the Coast for flikker work.
The Duke Ellington-Orson Welles
picture dealing with the rise of Negro
music from 1900 and featuring Duke and
his boys goes before the cameras this
month also.
Others following the picture route are
Vaughn Monroe, to do a picture for 20th
Century-Fox, Freddie Marlin to do two
for RKO, and Hal McIntyre on a short
for Universal.
Ray Noble is wowing 'em at the Palace
Room in 'Frisco and Benny Goodman has
resumed appearances in the East following
his vacation and marriage to Mrs. Alice
Duckworth in Las Vegas.

N. 1., recently to fulfill a theater date
found the theater aflame and th e marquee,
spelling out the stage and movie combina-
tion, reading: McFarland Twins-You're
Out of Luck.
Sonny Dunham a:'-sensation at the Hol-
lywood Palladium. Joe Reichman pack-
ing the Roosevelt hotel in New Orleans,
and Shep Fields putting the finishing
touches on new tunes for his opening at
the Chi'cago Edgewater Beach Hotel late
this month.
Alvino Rey has received an honorary
appointment in the Texas Rangers for in-
troducing "Deep In the Heart of Texas."
Horace Heidt, currently playing Coast
dates, has been booked for a return long
run at the Casa Manana in Culver City,
CaL, opening in September.
Decca's Merry Macs have organized a
unit ' of "benefit widows" to meet several
nights a week for home defense work while
their entertainer-husbands are off doing
shows at camps and hospitals_ Recently the
Macs sang 54 songs at Hoff Hospital, Santa
Barbara . . . certainly a full night's work.
After 12 years 0' Satchmo Louie Arm-
strong is back at the Casa Manana in
Culver City, Calif.
Art Hodes, Chicago jazz pianist from
way-back-when, has cut four sides for Decca
which will soon be released_
