For a good many years we've been writing
Christmas Editorials for THE REVIEW-but instead
of getting easier, as does the usual oft-repeated
task-this part of our job grows increasingly diffi-
cult. Of course the fault isn't ours, but the world's
-because it makes a chap look foolish to write
about "peace on earth" when better than half of
said earth is celebrating Christmas with hand
grenades instead of plum puddings.

However, just about the time you decide there
is no use trying, and that Christmas, too, can go
by the boards, some proud mother invites you to
a Christmas song fest at the local Sunday School,
and you take heart and new courage from the
indominable optimism of youth. There is some-
thing about a group of youngsters-with shining
faces, and high treble voices, singing the old, old
songs, that is a balm to the sorely tried.
So once again we have Christmas. The scene
out your window may be white or may be dark;
the skies above us may be blue or may be gray;
the world we live in may be sane or may be
crazy; but this much is certain .. . we still have
Christmas and something to be thankful for in
the good old United States.
Christmas is a day set aside from all the other
days of the year. It is a day when human hearts
soften, human minds think kindly, human souls
embrace the generous philosophy of "peace on
earth, good will toward men. "
It has been that way for nearly 2,000 years. It
will be that way this year. It shall continue to be
that way for our children and theirs. That is why
we dre devoting this space this month to a good
. old fashioned wish-Jor a very Merry Christmas for
everyone of our readers and the sincere wish
that the New Yeal will hold abundant blessings
for all.
