his new Buick.
The four-and-a-half-year-old son of P a ul
Simone, serviceman for Esquire Music,
was operated on for appendicitis July 20.
Doing okeh now.
When Victor McLaglen's "Light Horse
Cavalry and Motorcycle Riders visited San
Diego on July 26 the best promotion of the
event was through the RCA Sound Sy tern
supplied by Geor ge Buc kn a m of the
Bucknam Distributing Co., whose trucks
patrolled the main streets.
Les Lo rde n has added the fi lm business
to hi many other activi ties. Les stocks all
the new stuff and can whip up any kind of
a movie program a movie operator might
like. Rents are mighty reasonable too.
Ar ch C. Riddell, the Harmony Hostess
prexy, and Don Gr aves, serviceman, fig.
ured in a car spill in 1. A. on July 22. An-
other car hit them midship, throwing their
car onto the lawn and against a palm tree.
Neither was injured.
Mrs. C. A. Bla ke, her sister-in-law, and
C. A., Jr., left July 7 for the East in Mrs.
Blake's new maroon-colored Buick and
landed in Winstom-Salem, N. c., July 12.
They expect to visit for a month.
J o hnn y Ruggie ro, of Jack R. Moore's
San Francisco office, arrived here July 18
for a few days.
R ay Jon es, music opera tor, will leave
shortly for the East to pick up two new cars
in Detroit. That's the way western opera tors
are doing it nowadays. It used to be one
car; now it's two.
R ay E b erts, music merchant, has just
returned from a two-week jaunt through
British Columbia and Western Canada.
From all appearances Ray had a swell time.
How'd the Canadia ns like the new ties,
Ray?
Mac Mohr returned from an Eastern trip
J ul y 16. While East, Mac visited Daval,
Baker and Evans in Chicago and conferred
wi th Holl y in De troit. Evans appointed him
Western Factory Representative.
Walte r Gaunt is summering at Big Bear,
resting up and getting ready for another
busy season along about October 15 at
Twenty- ine Palms. Walter owns a beauti-
ful home down there and it is not uncom-
mon for half a dozen coinfolks to drop in
on him any week·end during the winter
months and partake of the famous Gaunt
hospitality. Herb McClellan, Joe Richarme
and Jack Gut hall are three of Gaunt's best
local hospitality salesmen.
Mr. and Mrs. Gen e C rowley spent their
vacation in San Francisco in mid-July. Gene

" Californ ia, here I come," says Hank Maser, Jennings' special factory representative , as he
prepares to travel the W est Coast for Jennings. He is explaining Californ ia climate and scenic
beauty to Leo J. Ke lly , Jennings ' vice-president. (California Chamber of Commerce please note)
reads like the blue book of coin machine
operating in the West. It is not u ncommon
for operators to ship machines several hun-
dred mi les for a Graham refinish ing job.
An ardent believer in advertising, Gra·
ham has not missed an issue of THE RE·
VIEW for more than five years and attributes
a fair portion of his rapid ly increasing
business to the effectiveness of hi adver-
tising appearing in this pub li cation.

LOS ANGELES - There really must be
someth ing in the importance of names,
says Paul A. Laymon, distributor, who dis-
agrees wi th the old adage, "A rose by any
other name would smell as sweet," and
points to " Knocko ut" as his proof.
"We've been practically bowled over in
th e rush of orders for Exhibit's Knock-
Out," says Laymon. "And Genco's Zig Zag
is zig-zagging righ t along to the tip top
peak of popularity, too."
The Laymon service departmen t is larger
by two, new members, George Kelly, for-
merly of E. T. Mape Music Co., and Fran-
cis Ray, once on the roster of the Con oli-
da ted Novelty Co. An old-timer compared
to Kelly and Ray, another recent service
man is Harry McGuire.
"We're everyone of us busy . .. old and
new members of the organiza tion," Paul
reports. "Everybody is happy . . . lots of
orders pouring in . . . operators especially
going for specials offered. Just one of those
pleasant, good business eras."

"No, my wife hasn't driven more than
10,000 words in it."
She had mastered all the simple tricks
of driving the car and th ey decided to try
a trip on a country road. The proud hus-
band was about to relax when out of the
clear blue she squeaked, "Quick, John!
Ta ke the wheel! Here comes a tree!"
