operators no longer would go from one
place to another s eeking lower priced
equipment on the basis of quoting the
cost the previous jobber visited had es-
tablished. He points out the fact that
operators lose as much as the jobbers
do. With cut rate prices in effect the
operator gets less attention, less serv-
ice, less surety of the merchandise he
buys, because the jobber, or the distri-
butor, has to keep overhead down to at-
tempt to make up the loss in income
fr.om sales. More than that, when it's all
through the operator who has partici-
pated in a price-cutting circle, going
from one salesfloor to another always
getting a lower price, still has a feeling
that he' s being cheated, that he might
somehow have done better. Bromberg
warns that the policy is not good for
anyone concerned.
Now in his new quarters, Bromberg
marks his fourth change since leaving
New York. His first Los Angeles place
of busines s was at , 1034 West Seventh
Street, in what was then the "row."
From there he went into quarters about
five times as large as his first one, at
2922 West Pico Boulevard, and then into
space five times a s large again, at 1481
West Washington. Now, at 935 Venice
Boulevard, he's admittedly in smaller
space, but no one should be deceived.
While actually containing less square
feet, the whole layout of his plant is
more compact and far more convenient-
ly arranged so that less room is needed.

Pin games have been restored very
much to favor in Omaha and the ·adja-
cent territory. Current favor is highest in
two years. Hymie Zorinsky has added
amusement tables to the route of 400
peanut machines. he' s been operating,
most of which are located in Omaha
proper. Jack Katz, with offices and ware-
house space on Twenty-fourth Street, is
another sizable marble game operator;
he also sells automatic music to patrons
of loca tions.
On the music front , the Johnson Music
Co. is reported as having added a hun-
dred of the new Wurlitzer machines.
Johnson .is probably the oldest operator
in this city; at one time his machines
were Mills products exclusively. Sam
Golick, whose headquarters are on Deer
Park Boulevard, is the .latest to place a
large order for Wurlitzers . Twenty-five
of the new ones will supplant some of
his old phonographs. Colick is one of
the largest of the Omaha operators, and
clearly a successful one.
Tony Mangano of Howard Sales Co.,
attended the NACOMM Show in Chi-
cago in December. From there he went
to Detroit and then back , to Omaha,
drivin_g a new car. This he is using in
making a tour of Texas, going to Hot
Springs, New Mexico, for two weeks,
and thepce to Los Angeles where he
plans to stay for a month.
Thirteen holds no terrors for Ceniral
Distributing Co., Omaha's newest coin
machine firm, handling a general line oi
machines. Their quarters are located
on the 1300 block on South Thirteenth
Street.
Sam Pepper, who operates as the
Polly Sales Co., has added several new
phonograph~_ to his music line. He has
a few piec.e s of equipment located in
Omaha, ;but generally prefers smaller
towns as the income seems to be
greater in proportion to the expense in-

volved. He has found, too, that changes
are less frequent in smaller places, and
that makes installation and ·operating •
costs lower.
V. Smith, for the past two years with
the National Premium Co., Omaha, is
now salesman and master mechanic for
Howard Sales Co. Smith knows the
game and is well equipped for his new
job.
Tony Marfesi, an Omaha operator,
left January 10 for Hot Springs, New
Mexico, for ten days ' rest. He will then
visit Los Angeles for two weeks before
returning home.

Clarence Malchi, a major operator
from St. Joseph, Mo. , visited several
Omaha coinmen the last week of De-
cember. Malchi reports the coin ma-
chine business of his city -is gradually
improving. ·
Mrs. George Stowe, operator at York,
Nebr., ·w as an attendant at the Chicago
show. She bought • some pin games
while there. Mrs. Stowe has carried on
the business of her late husband ever
since his death and shows that a wom-
an makes a good operator.
Harry Heikam, of Columbus, Nebr. ,
an old time operator, was visiting his
many friends here holiday week.
The Sidles Co. , doing business at
Omaha, Lincoln, Hastings, and other
points in the state, has let the contract
for a new and modern front on the
Omaha building. The interior will also
be remodeled and the appliance de-
pariment given more space. This firm
handles the Bluebird and Victor rec-
ords.
Ted Welch, owner of Ted's Novelty
Co., with headquarters at Centerville,
Iowa, has purchased all the interests
doing business in Grinnell, Iowa, and
will operate them from Centerville. He
is also operating many machines in
Sheridan, Wyo., and vicinity. Ted made
a visit to Omaha during the holidays
and stocked up on new records.
