.Cigarette Operators
Organize In Calif.
Cigarette operators in California saw the
• formation of a statewide organization go
forward to completion late in July, with
every indication that its future will help
bring stability and success to the industry
in this state.
A meeting at Fresno, in May, to incor-
porate the organization, was the first defi-
nite step in the forming of the Cigarette
Merchandising Association of California.
Today the Association is statewide with
seven "local" districts and a membership
made up of a large majority of the ciga-
rette operators in California.
A permanent organization of the opera-
tors in the entire state has been contem-
plated for some time. The "attempted leg-
islation" on cigarette machines at the last
NAME AND
California Legislature helped to bring op-
erators into one large Association, which
may work for the common interest of all.
State officers have been named and the
territory to be included in each of the dis-
tricts determined, as well as the director
of each local group. The membership of
the districts will include all local cigarette
operators who wish to join. Meetings will
be held once each month to discuss operat-
ing problems and trends. The state organi-
zation will be in close touch with the
local groups at all times.

State officials, who will meet whenever it
is deemed necessary., are: J. W. Glenn, of
San Francisco, president; T. A. Morrissey,
Los Angeles, first vice-president; Abraham
Fisher, Sacramento, second vice-president;
A. B. MacDonnell, Fresno, third vice-presi-
dent; C. B. Brandon, Oakland, treasurer; J.
Joseph Sullivan, San Francisco, secretary.

"Futurity" Idea Clicks
On Baily's Variety
CHICAGO-Utilizing a new principle of
play, the Bally Manufacturing Company's
new 5-ball novelty game, Variety, is rapidly
proving its ability to increase collections in
the average novelty location, according to
Jim Buckley, general sales manager of the
organization.
This new idea, termed "futurity" by
Buckley, is entirely different from the other
novelty games on the market today, and
Buckley believes that it will start a new
trend in the field. "In Variety," Jim ex-
plains, "the player builds up his award by
skill, but he can't claim a winner until the
game ends. Awards keep getting bigger
and bigger, but, no matter how high the
award climbs, the player is never sure of
a winner until the final split-second of
play.
"This is the exact opposite of games pre-
ceding Variety in which the player first
qualified to win an award and then pro-
ceeded to build up the award.
"Variations of the 'futurity' idea will un-
doubtedly be developed, because of the
tremendous earning power demonstrated by
Variety.
